My exams were Thursday the 9th and friday the 10th of may. As of current, i only have one result back but will keep you updated. This was an experience to say the least.
First was English (p1 & p2 on Thursday). It was quite surreal to be in a proper exam hall for the first time. At least my classmates were actually quiet for once!
Coming into it, I knew I was going to do badly in structure, since that was my weakness. I was feeling quite confident about language though, as that was generally my strong point. I only wrote two paragraphs for structure, but let's be honest, would it have really made that much difference if I'd written 3? For the creative the writing part, I wrote some really dark stuff. I probably should've put a disclaimer on that. I don't know if it's just me but I sometimes find it easier to write sad and negative things than happy and positive things. So assuming that I get full marks in the language question (worth 12 marks) and the creative writing section (worth 40 marks), I could potentially get 52/60 (87.66%). That's just a best case scenario though. What I'll probably get is 30-40 marks, maybe 45 if I'm lucky. I think that's about a grade 4/5(C), possibly 6(B) if the grade boundaries are really low. Just got it back: 2/8 on structure (why am I not surprised?), 6/12 on language (that's OK I guess), and 30/40 in creative writing (12/16 on technical accuracy and 16/24 on the other one.)
Maths was second. That happened during p3 and p4 of Thursday. Maths is my favourite subject and I'm pretty good at it, if I do say so myself. I revised for about 3 hours anyway, and was feeling pretty confident about it. However, only 5 of the 25 questions related to the revision specification we had been given previously. Thank goodness I'd paid attention in lesson (unlike some people which you will find out about later)! The exam itself wasn't too bad, but with maths you can never be sure. I'd predicted myself a 5/6 (B) (realistically, I wanted a 7(A). I calculated that I needed 66.2/80 to get a grade 9 (A**) which is what I want to achieve at GCSE, but that's just not gonna happen.) I got my results back the day after (props to my maths teacher for marking them so quickly!) I'm guessing it was a hard test for everyone, as the pass mark was set at just 30% (24/80). Talk about low grade boundaries! I got 44/80 (55%) which was a grade 6 (B+). Turns out my predictions were bang on! I flipped through the page, seeing if I could find any more marks. I quickly noticed that I'd got the angle bisector question wrong for no apparent reason so I asked my teacher. He said I'd drawn too many construction lines. I guess I must've looked sad because he then gave me the 3 marks anyway. So now I had 47, one mark away from 48 (60%) which was a grade A (7).
Science was last. It took place during p3 and p4 of friday. I'd revised science for about 4 hours prior to the exam, so I was very sure I would know the answers. I'm glad I tried to memorise the reactivity series back in December, because that came up. When there were five minutes left, I only had one question left to do - 9A and 9B. You had to write out an experiment to measure how fast water evaporated at different temperatures and draw a table for your results. I haven't got it back yet but I think I at least passed and that's good. OK, just got it back today. 37/70. Not bad but not good either - it's average. Hopefully, I won't move down to set 2 or 3 bc that would rly suck.
Overall, it's been an interesting past week. I don't think I've ever been so focused in my entire life. By the way, I have a tiktok account (@ellenchattergirl) and a YouTube channel (Ellen Chattergirl) so feel free to check that out:) If you have exams coming up (IBs, IGCSEs, GCSEs, AS - levels, A - levels, e.t.c), then good luck and I hope you get the grades you want/need. Even if you don't, at least you tried your best and that's what matters most💞
