A student has said that the writer effectively uses language to show Matilda's personality throughout the book. To what extent do agree with this statement?
I completely agree with this statement. One of the ways the writer expressively communicates Matilda's personality is in the quote "Matilda didn't trust herself to answer him, so she kept quiet." "She knew it was wrong to hate her parents like this, but she was finding it very hard not to do so." This shows a degree of maturity and reasoning in her thought process which most six year olds wouldn't have. This implies that her mental age is way beyond her physical age. This neatly links to one of the main focuses of the novel - her intelligence - which is responsible for making up a large portion of her personality.

Edit: I showed this to my English teacher and he said it was good. My Maths and English exams are tomorrow and my Science one is on friday.
