“I like those jeans on you,” Reina commented as we got ready for the party. It was a ritual and it took time to look decent. She of course would say we looked hot and sexy, but that would be Rei with her natural curves and rhythm when she walked.

We never really knew how, but Reina had managed to escape from her home. Neither of us dared to ask if she had begged for forgiveness or used some kind of ninja moves to get out of confinement. She didn’t share many details about how awful things had been with her dad after the incident with Mason. And we knew that if she wasn’t willing to open up, then she wouldn’t say a thing. On my part, I just couldn’t be mad at her for long. I knew she had done it to protect me and teach him a lesson or something. She knew Jack wouldn’t do it – or couldn’t, since he was a senior and he had high hopes on getting a full scholarship thanks to soccer, something that wouldn’t have happened if he got suspended. She didn’t apologize and I didn’t ask for it. We just looked at each other for a couple of seconds and came to the unspoken agreement that we would go on with our friendship as if nothing had happened.

“Here, try this on,” Skye said handing me something from her bag.

I shot her a look. We both knew that if it came from her closet, it wouldn’t fit me. She was naturally skinny to the point many of us envied her. And I had seen her eat almost her weight in ice cream, which spoke about how much I envied her.

“It’s my sister’s. You’ll look great.”

It was a creamed colored top that looked way too tight for me, but I tried it on, since I knew they wouldn’t let me say no just like that.

When I saw myself in the mirror, I gaped. It wasn’t only too tight, but it showed cleavage. I never, never showed that much of my body.

“Wow, where were you hiding that rack?” Rei quipped and I only glared at her.

“I can’t wear this!” I hissed.

Skye smiled. “Of course you can. You look gorgeous and it’s not like you dress like this every day. Let us spoil you.”

If Jack would’ve seen me making my way out on that shirt, he would’ve locked me up in the bathroom for a few days.

“Here.” Rei shrugged off her leather jacket and motioned for me to take it and slip it on. “Last touch and you look like guys will be drooling for you.”

I stared at my reflection and wondered if that was what I wanted. Would it make me feel better to have a boy looking at me and trying to pick me up? Probably. I couldn’t deny it. It was nice for the ego and at least it would give me hope that there could be someone else in my life in the future. I also had to admit that a small part of me wanted to make Mason feel like I did, even if it was contemptible to only think about it.

Zipping up the jacket, the girls and I tiptoed our way out of the house. My parents were at the bistro, but Jack thought he was in charge and that usually meant making my life as difficult as possible.

“Where are you going?”

We yelped and glared at him and his stupid triumphant smirk. He had sneaked up on us just as we were about to open the front door.

“Out.”

He narrowed his dark eyes.

“I want GPS coordinates or the closest thing you can come up with.”

I groaned. He was a serious a-hole when he wanted to be. But it was then that I noticed he had dressed up, as well. And so, I used my right as sister and smirked at him.

“As long as you provide yours.”

We locked eyes, glaring at each other, willing the other to surrender. It was a typical brother and sister challenge that neither of us was able to win.
