Bai Luo Yin almost choked on his saliva as he gaped at Zhou Ling Yun.
"You want me to what?"
"I need you to become a private doctor for a special client." The way he emphasised it gave Bai Luo Yin a bad feeling. "Here's a brief report on his condition." Bai Luo Yin took the papers handed to him.
The patient is male, 28 years old. Had a car accident and got impaled by a metal plate, which punctured his heart at 18. Suffered from myocardial contusion, arrhythmia, pericardial effusion (minor, at risk), dilated cardiomyopathy (minor, at risk) and other long-term heart complications.
Bai Luo Yin sucked in a quick breath, feeling grateful that he was currently occupying a very healthy and functioning body.
"He was sent to the US for treatment, had undergone multiple surgeries but is currently stable so it won't be a live-in situation for you." Zhou Ling Yun continued. "But he has a strict rehabilitation routine which consists of regulated physical therapy and check-ups, which you will manage and monitor."
"He sounds like... a lot of hard work." Bai Luo Yin concluded.
You have no idea, Zhou Ling Yun wanted to say but kept it to himself. He needed Bai Luo Yin to accept the offer.
Bai Luo Yin tried sorting out the pros and cons in his head. Although he was skilled, he was still young in the field and having to deal with a patient that precariously ill was risky to his career. Plus, he was already busy with his research which he has been working on since med school.
"If you take the offer, your job will solely be focused on him. So you don't have to tend to other patients and you'll have more free time for your research." Zhou Ling Yun bid. "Plus the pay is very, very generous."
Bai Luo Yin's ears piqued at the last part.
Zhou Ling Yun smiled.
Gotcha!

Gu Hai tapped his foot in annoyance as he glared daggers at the back of Gu Wei Ting's head. They were currently in the elevator, on their way to see Dr Zhou Ling Yun.
Gu Wei Ting had popped into Gu Hai's office earlier and decided to become an unwanted participant in his meeting with Dr Zhou. Gu Hai was infuriated to say the least. He was a grown man, he can handle things on his own and doesn't need daddy to accompany him like a little boy.
The elevator dinged, indicating they have reached their floor.
A woman dressed professionally in a suit escorted the Gu men to Zhou Ling Yun's office.
"Gu Hai, you look better than the last time I saw you." Zhou Ling Yun smiled as he extended a hand towards Gu Hai.
"That's because the last time you saw me, you were shitty at your job." Gu Hai remarked, brushing past Zhou Ling Yun's figure and taking a seat on one of the sofas in the office. Zhou Ling Yun's smile twitched in annoyance.
"I apologise for my son, living in the west has made him even more crass." Gu Wei Ting said sombrely. Zhou Ling Yun can only force out a laugh as he gestured for the general to take a seat.
"Your doctor and medical team from UCSF Medical Centre already forwarded me all your medical files and reports. I also have the design for your cardiac rehabilitation program." Gu Hai nodded, looking bored as Dr Zhou droned on and on.
The woman who escorted Gu Hai and his father earlier came in the room and served them some tea.
Gu Wei Ting and Zhou Ling Yun continued with the conversation, but the vital man of the discussion didn't want to hear the same jargon he's been hearing the past decade.
