Chapter 11.
I think this is the first proper kiss we've ever had.
Filled with sun, sand and salt. It's quite nice actually.
I lean in closer, wrap my arms around the back of Liam's neck and just let all the worry leave me.
He suddenly pulls away.
"Woah." I gasp as I fall back against the sand, my sense of balance seeming to have left me. I probably look a mess, my hair tangled and my skin covered in sand.
I can see Liam leaning back against a tree, looking at me curiously, but I stay on my back for a few more seconds to let my heart calm down. It's beating rapidly at the moment.
Finally I roll over and prop myself up on my elbows to smile at him.
"That. Was. Something." I mumble, he looks sheepishly at me.
"Mmm, I never saw that one coming. Sorry for pulling away like that, I was pretty shocked." He replies.
He slowly gets up and comes over to lie next to me in the sand. I roll over again and stare up at the bright blue sky, thinking about nothing in particular, I could get used to this.
"It's weird thinking that my girlfriend is a Mermaid." Liam murmurs as we relax.
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" I ask.
"I've decided that it's good, definitely, I'm the luckiest guy ever, I would still think the same thing even if you weren't a Mermaid, I just can't believe it took me so long to realise that the person I was looking for was right in front of me." He says, smiling at me.
"I've got something embarrassing to tell you then." I reply.
"Yeah, what is it?"
"Well, I've actually had a crush on you for a few years...." I blurt, and feel myself turn red.
"You're joking."
"No! Seriously!"
"I only thought you liked me as a friend, that's why it took me a while to work up the nerve to ask you out." Liam replies.
"Aww, well look where we are now, today has been perfect." I grin, because it's been complete bliss for me.
"True." Liam agrees, he wraps his tan arms around me in the sand, and pulls me into a tight hug.
I just want time to stand still, but it won't, so after a while of soaking up the rays I untangle myself from him and sleepily sit up.
"Ahh," I yawn, rubbing my eyes.
"Where are you going?" Liam asks me sleepily.
"I'm going to try and find Ainslea, it would be cool for her to come chill on the beach with us."
"Don't you like hanging out with me?" He replies, running a hand through his bronze hair.
"No silly, you're perfect! But we need more social contact, plus it's not like you are only here for a day!" I reply warmly.
"Ok, I'll just rest, be back soon though, I don't want to be stranded." He mumbles into the sand.
"Ok." I whisper, and lean down to peck his forehead.
"Mmm." He mumbles.
Then I sprint off to the edge of the island and leap into the deep blue ocean below.
~
I can vaguely remember the area where I met Ainslea yesterday, so I swim in that direction. It's a great feeling, being in the big ocean, surrounded by colourful coral, seaweed and a flurry of creatures.
