The two queen bees walked down the hallways of North Westwood High School. Annie LeBlanc and Lilia Buckingham. The perfects. The real life Heathers, except there were only two of them, not three. There had been three, but Anna Cathcart had moved a few weeks ago.
They weren't trouble makers, they were just perfect. Perfect grades, perfect friends, perfect families, perfect home life. Or as it seemed.

"Anns do we have music next?" Lilia asked, bringing Annie out of her trance.
"Huh?" She said. "Uh yeah."
"Are you okay? That's like the third time you've zoned out today." Lilia questioned.
"I'm fine, Li. I promise." She said. But she wasn't fine. In actual fact, she hadn't had more than an three hours sleep a night since she was thirteen. Every night since her mom and little sister had died in a car crash, she had terrible nightmares.
Nightmares that scared her awake.
Nightmares that scared her senseless.
Nightmares that stopped her sleeping.
And so she didn't.
She walked.

The golden boys of South Westwood High School stood behind the bike sheds. Asher Angel and Johnny Orlando were the school's most popular football players. Everyone thought they were perfect.

"Dude." Johnny said.
"Yeah?" Asher said, lighting a cigarette and drawing it in.
"You look like you've just crawled up from the grave." He said.
"Gee thanks bro." Asher smiled slightly.
"No really, are you okay?"
"I'm fine John. Stop worrying. If you wanna worry about someone, worry about Kenzie. Everyone's saying she cheated on you with that Ashton dude." Asher said, changing the subject quickly. He didn't want his friend worrying, but in reality he wasn't fine. For as long as he can remember he hadn't been able to sleep. Nobody knew about it, not even his parents.
Sometimes he sat on his roof.
Sometimes he went to the park.
Sometimes he just lay there awake.
But he never slept.
