☽annie and asher turned the corner so they were no longer on the same street as the 7/11.
"so you're from the south side?" annie said.
"yeah. we moved here when my little brother was born. we used to live in arizona." he said.
"i used to live in los angeles. we moved here a few years ago because my parents wanted a change of scenery." annie said.
"do you miss it?"
"i miss the hot weather, but it's equally as hot here sometimes." annie said. "what about you?"
"i was three when we moved here so i don't really remember it that well but in all the baby pictures of me i look pretty happy." he grinned, bringing out his intense dimples once again.
"aww that's cute." annie said.
"i asked my mom if i had changed at all since i was a baby and she said the only thing that has changed is the fact that i swear a shit ton more than i used to." he laughed. annie giggled at him and put her hands in the pockets of the hoodie.
"hey you do you want this back now?" annie asked.
"no i'm fine. i don't want you to get cold again." he said.
"thanks." annie said quietly.
"not to sound like a pedophile or anything but how old are you?" asher said.
"i'm only just 17." annie said stoutly.
"wow you're so small." asher joked.
"just because you're a fucking unit." annie said, pushing him slightly. "how old are you?"
"i just turned 18." he said.
"huh. i assumed you'd be a lot older." annie said.
"why?"
"because you look older. you're all tall and fit-looking." annie said without thinking.
"nice to know." he smirked.
"that's not what i meant." annie said, raising her eyebrow. "why are you awake so late anyway?"
"i couldn't sleep and i needed to buy more cigarettes." he said.
"oh. i'm out every night. i can't sleep at all." annie said.
"neither can i. i just lie awake most nights until it gets light." he said.
"i used to do that but now i go out. i just walk places. this is the first time i've walked this far though." she said thoughtfully.
"maybe i should try that sometime." he said.about twenty minutes later annie's feet were starting to drag. she had walked this entire distance once tonight already, and paired with the fact that she hadn't had a full nights sleep since she was thirteen, she was growing increasingly tired. her hands were still in the pockets of ashers hoodie and she was getting slower and slower.
"are you okay?" asher said from ahead of her.
"huh? oh yeah i'm fine." annie said. "i'm just a bit tired." to clarify, she wasn't sleepy-tired, she was tired of walking.
"how much further until we get to your house?" asher asked.
"about twenty-five minutes." annie sighed.
"do you want a piggy back?" he asked.
"no i'm fine. besides i'm too fat for you to hold." she said without a hint of irony.
"bullshit." he said. "come here." for once annie did what she was told and walked up to him. he bent down and picked her up so she was on his back and continued walking. annie buried her face into his shoulder and let her feet dangle aimlessly. she felt so much taller than before, and his hair was soft on her face. asher smiled, unknown to annie, about the fact that he had the most beautiful girl he had possibly ever seen on his back.before she knew it she was home. she jumped off of ashers back and the pair walked to her front door.
"thanks for walking me home and thankyou for giving me a piggy back even though i weigh a ton." annie smiled. the sun was rising, making the world seem less dark and creepy and more soft and pretty.
"you weigh hardly anything, and no problem. i wanna see you again." asher said.
"so do i. what if we meet tonight somewhere?" annie suggested.
"how about we meet at that park in between north side and south side at 2am?" asher said.
"perfect. i'll see you tonight." annie smiled.
"have a good day." asher grinned, turning round and walking down the driveway.
"wait!" annie shouted, running after him and throwing her arms around his neck, having to reach right up because of the height difference. asher froze for a second before putting his arms around her waist and hugging her back. they both pulled away at the same time, smiling. annie walked back to her door and asher walked out of the gate. they both waved and annie went inside. she quietly went up to her bedroom and lay on her bed.her alarm clock went off and she rolled off of her bed and into her bathroom. she looked in her full length mirror and saw she was still wearing ashers hoodie. she felt bad that he had to walk back all that way in the cold, but she couldn't deny the fact that she wanted to keep it. she showered and changed into blue jeans and a white adidas shirt with ashers hoodie wrapped around her waist because it was quite warm.
asher got into his room just as his alarm rang. he rubbed his arms so try and get rid of some of the coldness. sure, he was cold, but he wanted annie to have his hoodie as a reminder of him. he showered to wake himself up and changed into black jeans and a plain white shirt with his air force 1s once again.
"where did you get that hoodie from?" lilia asked suspiciously as she and annie walked to school.
"oh i got it yesterday when i went shopping with paige." annie lied.
"it's a men's hoodie." lilia said pointedly.
"it was cute and i wanted an oversized hoodie." she said.
"oh okay." lilia said. "i like it. it smells like vanilla, is that a new spray?"
"yeah i got it from victoria's secret." annie lied again. she couldn't tell lilia about asher if she didn't want her to find out that she didn't sleep."bro how was that dinner thing?" johnny asked as the pair smoked behind the school again.
"it was boring as fuck." asher replied shortly. all he could think about was seeing annie again. he couldn't wait for tonight.hi
