My plane had already landed but I just sat there. Not moving and keeping my eyes closed. I was desperately wasting all the time in the world so I wouldn't have to step off this plane and see my Mother. I'm not even sure why I consider her my Mom. I haven't seen her since I was 12 and she doesn't even know the person that I have turned into since then.

I felt someone touching the back of my seat. "Excuse me, Miss?" I heard a woman voice say. I opened my eyes and saw that I was the last person on the plane, apart from the flight attendant who was speaking to me.

"Oh, sorry! I must have fell asleep and lost track of time!" I lied. I didn't sleep a wink on this trip and for that matter, I haven't slept well in the last four weeks.

The flight attendant reached above me for my carry-on bags and handed them to me. "It's not a problem! I hope you enjoyed your flight!" She smiled to me as I walked off.

I was hesitant to walk into the airport but I figured that I wasted enough time and I would have to do it sooner or later. I took a deep breath and then I took my first step into my new life.

I looked around, searching for a woman with long, curly blond hair. At least that is how I remembered my Mom's hair to be. I stood there for a while, just scanning the crowd for her. Then, a very skinny girl with dark eyes and brown hair stood in front of me.

She smiled, "You must be Isabella!"

"It's Bella." I replied quickly.

"I'm Ariel!" She put out her hand, waiting for me to shake it.

"That's nice." I started walking past her but she ran right back in front of me.

"I'm your step-sister!" Once those words came out of her mouth, I stopped walking.

"Excuse me?" My eyes got wider and my mouth dropped.

"Tracy is in the bathroom, she knew that you would come out right after she finally decided to go-"

Once she said my mother's name, I got nervous. I cut her off, "I need to go get my luggage."

She pointed over to a corner with 3 bags, "Already done!" She smiled again.

So far, I could tell Ariel was very enthusiastic and had a lot of energy. "Um, Thank you..." I trailed off and she looked behind me and smiled. I closed my eyes and knew it would be my Mom standing there, I didn't want to see her.

I felt someone put their arms around me, "Sweetie, it is so nice to see you again!"

I opened my eyes and saw her hugging me, I pulled away. "Maybe for you..."

I glanced at her to see hurt in her eyes after I insulted her. I wanted to feel bad but I just didn't.

Ariel cut off the silence, "We should get going!" She grabbed one of my bags and started walking, my mom did the same and I followed after them with the rest of my bags.

The drive to their house felt hours long because of the awkward silence. My mom would sometimes ask me about myself but I always answered with "I don't know". She gave up after asking the 4th time.

Once we got to their house, Ariel jumped out and ran over to the trunk where my bags were and grabbed one. "I'm really excited about you starting school tomorrow! You have to meet all of my friends-"

I cut her off once again, "Wait? Did you say tomorrow? That can't be right. I haven't even signed up yet!"

"I took care of it, Isabella. I figured you wanted to start as soon as possible to get your mind off of Texas." I looked over at my mom as she finished speaking. I gave her a dirty look that made her look away.

"Why in the world would I want that? Why would I want to get my mind off of Texas when that was the only place where I had something nice?" I snapped. "I much rather be there than here." I made a face at the house. This house may have been bigger and nicer than my old one but it still wasn't my home.

I ran inside and walked into the room that Ariel gestured me into. I figured this was my room, so I set my stuff down. The bed was already set up so I laid inside of it, exhausted.

I opened my eyes the next morning to Ariel's face in mine, just staring at me. She scared me and made me roll right off the bed. "OUCH!" I winced as I hit the floor, hard.

"I'm so sorry!" Ariel said and she ran over to me. "I figured that I would surprise you! I'm not use to having a sister!" She smiled.

"I'm not your sister." I replied and stood up.

Instantly, her smile was gone. "Oh...um..."

Great, now it was awkward. I shouldn't have been so rude to her.

"Can you please get out so I can change?" I asked and gave a small smile to make her feel better.

She smiled back, "Sure! I'll be downstairs when you're ready! I'm so glad we are in the same grade so we might have classes together!" I closed the door as soon as she finished talking.

I lied about changing because after I closed the door, I jumped right back into bed. I was not ready to start Step two in my journey here, so just as I did in the plane, I closed my eyes and wasted as much time as I could.
