*Prologue*

Luke P.O.V.

Homework was tedious. So very tedious. All those stupid unanswered questions taunting you on the page. I never liked school much because in my opinion, it was just a burden. Always having to wake up early and stay up late doing pointless work that made you want to tear your eyeballs out.

Music was the only subject that could hold my attention. Music had always been important to me. Even when I was four years old. I had gotten guitar lessons for Christmas. Playing that instrument came naturally to me. My passion didn't change even when I was inside of that prison they call a school. My teacher was thankfully awesome. She allowed us to play songs of own choice even if they were horrible and overplayed. My last assignment I had done a Nirvana song and gotten an A.

Nirvana definitely qualified as one of my favorite bands. It was always so unfortunate to me that barely any people shared the same music interests as me save a select few. These few were my best friends.

I stared down at the aggravating blank page once again and decided that I needed an official break. I played a random playlist on Youtube and hummed along, closing my eyes in relaxation.

The chorus of the fifth song was interrupted when I heard banging on my door. Without waiting for a response, my best friend Michael burst into the room with a panicked look on his face. Michael was one of those selct few people who had an actual taste in music.

"I sort of but not really just accidentally asked out Jamie Finn," he said wide-eyed. "And I don't know what to do, Luke, I'm freaking out help me!"

I dropped my phone on the floor and sweared. No damage, thankfully. I got up and closed the door so my mother wouldn't eavesdrop or anything.

"Okay, calm down, Mikey," I said and went back to my desk chair. "What do you mean you accidentally asked out Jamie? What happened?"

He plopped down on my bed. "I was getting pizza and these girls from school were on line behind me. One of them asked me if I would go out with Jamie and I said 'yeah I would'. Would as in not really but I'd do it. Not seriously! But they all giggled and oooh-ed and why do girls do that? So Samantha Chase-do you know her?-gave me Jamie's phone number and said to call her because she likes me and now I have to go out with her! Luke, what do I do? I don't date! I just play video games and go on tumblr! Social interaction wasn't in my job description!"

"Michael, calm down!" I said again. "Do you even want to go out with her?"

"Yeah, I guess. She's pretty hot and nice and stuff..."

I raised an eyebrow at him. It would have been hilarious to see him so frantic but Michael was obviously freaking out. And for no reason it seemed. He liked the girl and was going out with her. I couldn't see the problem.

"So what's the issue?" I asked.

Michael hesitated and then mumbled something incoherently.

"What did you say?"

He mumbled again, turning pink.

I rolled my eyes and said, "One more time, Mike. And use your outside voice this time."

"I don't know how to date!" He shouted. I snickered and he glared at me. "It's not funny! I've never been on a date before. I don't know the protocol and we both know how socially awkward I am one-on-one with people I don't know well," Michael said.

He had a fair point. I remembered a couple years ago he had to do a biology project with someone else. He literally didn't say one word the entire day they worked so the teacher eventually switched his partner with me.

"I need you to teach me, Luke," Michael said. "Help me. You're my only hope."

And because he asked me using a Star Wars reference, I said yes.
