Nathan
The only light in the classroom was the light shining through the windows. Me and Violet made it to our spanish class on the top floor, just before the power went out.
"Really, a blackout?" Violet says frustrated, looking out into the dark hallway, filled with red emergency lights.
"I'm sure the power will come back on soon" I say to reassure her. She nods in agreement.
The sound of thunder draws everyone's attention towards the window. All of a sudden the sky darkens. Strikes of lightning hit the earth.
That was really close.
"What the-." Violet says to my right. "How did the weather change so fast?"
I shrug and squint out the window. Hard to see anything now.
I look down at my phone and see that my phone had died. That's weird.
My phone was just at 80%, How was that possible?
Only six other students showed up. The others were probably using the power outage as an excuse to skip class. At least, that's what Violet told me.
We had a substitute today. She told us her name was Ms. Powell. She was quiet and looked to be in her 30's. All she did for the first 10 minutes was scroll through some folders like a maniac. I think anyone could tell it was her first day. She tried dialing the office a few times until she realized the power took that out too.
Realizing it was hopeless, Ms. Powell just moved along with giving us instructions on what we're supposed to do.
It felt like half an hour had passed and the power was still out. Although I'm not sure how long it's been since the clocks stopped working and mine and Violet's phones were dead. I'm not sure how that was possible, considering it was over sixty percent last time I checked. But now I'm not able to reach Jesse either.
Not even a minute later a scruffy looking man walks in and exchanges a few words with Mrs. Powell who seems to be sweating up a storm, before he steps in front of the class, facing us. "Hey guys, my name is Mr. Val, I am apart of the office administration. Just letting everybody know that there's no need to worry, if the lights don't come back on in another 10 minutes, all classes will need to head down to the gymnasium following emergency protocol." He informs us.
"What's going on?" A student asks.
"It's just a lightning storm. I'm sure the power will turn back on soon.
Okay, everything's fine. I'll see Jesse in the gym soon.
Stay calm.
