Sebastian POV:
"Alpha" Veronica curtsied as much as she was capable in her heavily pregnant state. "I have a request to make of you.."
I sighed a bit, I knew I would regret coming to the palace and not home. "Very well Ronny, just for Lunas sake sit before I force you to remain home for the rest of your pregnancy."
She rolled her eyes a bit but carefully sank into a chair.
She had some difficulty doing so and it took everything I had not to stand and attempt to help her.
Veronica would be lividly offended.
She rose her brows at me as if asking, I sat my ass down happy now?
"Alright whats your request and for fucks sake Ronny I have known you all my life, longer than even Mase, don't call me Alpha. We are alone, not talking business and you are mated to my best friend and beta."
She smiled a bit, "but this does have to do with business Sebastian."
I sat up straighter, "How so?"
"I heard of the golem today and Mason told me of those strange Zombies... you intend to hunt this witch?"
"Of course I do. The woman wasted 13 zombies on a message. She clearly cares even less for mortals than others of her kind, she cannot be allowed to exist."
She nodded, rubbing gentle circles on her stomach, "then I must ask you do not bring Mason."
My brows shot into my hairline, "you want me to go on hunt without my beta?"
"No..." she started, growing distressed, "I want neither of you to go but this is your suicide mission, I would rather the father of my pups not die as well."
I sat back, looking her over carefully, "you do know this is the witch he wanted me to see yes?"
"Yes." She murmured, "but you are not going for help, you are going to kill. She will retaliate violently."
"You are asking me to remove my Beta from his duty."
Her fingers clutched the fabric at her stomach. "I keep having these terrible dreams... I have since you two have been hunting alone so frequently. That I give birth to my child the same day I learn it father is dead." She looked at me sadly, "I know you are hurting. Bash, I know you are mourning your own life and that of your mate. And I wish, you have no idea how much I wish for it to be different." A tear fell from her lashes, "I love you like a brother and I cannot loose both of you."
"You have no choice with me Ronny." I sighed, "discuss it with Mase. If he agrees and wishes to stay behind I will allow it."
She looked down at her feet, "I already did."
"He said no?" I asked genuinely surprised.
"Mason wishes to be by your side until the very end, and he fears that end is upon Willow Mountain." Her eyes flashed to the golems head, smaller now, on my desk, "you are returning a golem to a witch."
"She might be less of a pain if we return her property. Perhaps she won't expect the kill."
She didn't believe that for a second but said nothing of the matter, "how many wolves will you bring?"
"Twelve. All high ranking soldiers Ronny."
"Im scared to have my baby without him."
"If we are lucky it will take no more than two days, you have two weeks until you are supposed to go into labor correct?"
"Yes."
"Good, I'm moving you to a less strenuous job for the next to weeks and please try not too stress too much okay?"
She looked like she wanted to protest but relented, "fine."
"Good. We are leaving tomorrow morning for the witches hut, take the rest of your shift off, spend it with Mase."
She smiled a bit, "thank you."
"Always." I murmured, "I would never deny you time to spend with your mate before he leaves for battle."
Sadness flashed through her eyes, "how much longer do you think you will be able to battle for? You have lost weight.."
Jeez those two are certainly a pair. "I am fine Veronica, and when the time comes for me to cease battling I will."
I could tell by the look on her face she didn't believe that.
And I couldn't blame her.
I was lying.
If I had to die, I would do So completing my duty as a wolf, I would do so earning my place among Lunas stars.
I would die in battle.
