She nodded to herself and began to follow Sophia again. Shortly thereafter they came to a big, solid wooden door with thin, shiny black handles.
“Her majesty Abigail Marie” Sophia announced to the table of men and women and bowed with a sweep of her hand. She froze unaware of what to do now.
In a hushed tone Sophia urged her forward “ Go on”. She trips a little as she walks towards the table and the king gestures to the seat beside him. She nodded her thanks and took her seat silently.
“I presume you found everything alright in your room?” A smile hinting at his lips. “I heard about your little outburst. Do people make you uncomfortable?” His voice dropping into a serious tone, almost concerned.
She was speechless as she tried to stutter a response “ I’m just not accustomed to such a fuss being made over me your highness. I suppose I’ll get use to it.” Her face turned expressionless. He didn’t need to know more than that.
He nodded and returned to his food, the conversations at the table continuing as if there was nothing unusual with the new guest. God she was a stunning sight. Her ginger hair resting softly on her shoulders, while her green dress clung to her body like another skin. But her eyes were so cold, so uninviting, so untrusting. Why did she hate him so? He couldn’t fathom it. He shook his head a bit and pushed it away for the moment being.
She glanced up and saw his head shaking. What was he thinking about? She squinted her eyes as if to read his mind easier. She sighed and messed with her food. Hunger had escaped her since the sun had rose that morning. It looked beautiful, but she simply wasn’t hungry. She chewed on her lip, a horrid habit she had developed at as a child. She looked back at him briefly as a small smile crosses her lips. He was handsome and so far cordial and kind, so why did he make her blood boil? Why does his glance make me want to smack that smile off his face? She angrily stabs at her food, she didn’t trust him, that much was clear, but why?
