Once the 18 castaways disembark from their boats, their host, Meowth (of the Kantonian variety), welcomes them to Akala island and gives them a run-down of the season's theme.
Meowth: This season...you guys have been divided into two groups based on your physical capabilities.......In other words.....welcome to Pokevivor Alola: David vs. Goliath!!
*everybody claps*
Meowth: Our David tribe, our statistical weaklings....will be known as the Melemele tribe
*Meowth throws the weaker tribe a bag of navy blue buffs*

I have to admit, it's a little insulting to be considered one of the weakest Pokemon of all time, especially since I've gone through the hell of child-birth multiple times, but hey, I can't help how people perceive me. If I want to be known as a tough mama who can step up to the plate and win this game, I just have to deliver when it counts.

Is it an honor to be considered one of the 9 strongest Pokemon of all time? Pshht, of course it is! I never had any doubts about my strengths neither...and I think that's something that's gonna help me out here. I think a lot of these legendary fools will let the title of Goliath get to their head, make their egos go wild, but not me....uncle Ray is gonna play it cool and slide on through to that million dollars.

*Meowth then proceeds to hand each tribe 11,000 Pokedollars with which to barter for supplies in Konikoni city*
