Chapter 5: Mission in the Land of Rice Fields - 1

*Moriko's pov*

It has been a lot of fun training and spending time with Kuro. Mrs. Kuramoto, whom I visit sometimes, tells me everything they know about shi no ōkami. These wolves can also talk, however since Kuro was too young when we first met him, he could not speak. But he finally spoke his first word, my name, a some weeks later on my 10th birthday, which was on the 1st of October, my birthday, so it came as a great birthday present. Everyone on our team is now 10, except Minato-sensei and Obito, as the latter turned 11 on the 10th of February.

Kakashi stayed true to his word as well. He has been helping me train Kuro while he trained his own ninken as well. His are puppies as well. When the ninken grow up, Kakashi will be sign a summoning contract with them. Kuro wants me to do the same as well, which surprised me at first. Kuro is very peace-loving and often showing his upset when I become tired or injured while training, so wanting to be a ninken was one of the last things I expected from him. This is most likely due to influence from Kakashi's ninken, especially Pakkun, his proudest and most able. But after seeing that Kuro really meant it and wanted to help me, I agreed to sign the summoning contract once he grew older.

Things with Rin have also been well. I have a lot of fun with her, and she often takes me to spend time with other girls from her year. Before both of us had become shinobi, she had accidentally told me that she had a crush on a boy in her year. She would never reveal his name, but after joining Team Minato, I noticed that she would behave a little oddly around Kakashi. So a few eeks ago, when I asked her if it was him, she blushed a lot and said yes. Kakashi being popular was something I had seen from the many fangirls who often stalk us when the whole Team Minato is together - even when only he and I trained together. But seeing Rin's face which clearly said that she was in love with another, strangely made me feel like something inside me broke. It was so awful that I felt like I could run away, but I still smile and talk to her like before. I couldn't bear to leave her.

Minato-sensei also trained me outside of our time as Team Minato, to use my kekkei genkai and learn about the Suzuki clan. We had become a lot closer than when we first met a year and a half ago.

Coming back to the present, we are now in the training grounds, waiting for Obito - again. We were going to get a new mission today, but as usual, Obito is late. It is going to be 2 hours since our meeting time. But strangely, I do feel annoyed about this situation but don't feel as mad at him as I did on my first day. Kakashi, who was seething in anger, says that I have become too soft on Obito like Rin. Maybe that is true.

After I joined the team, I believed that my sullen and reserved attitude would prevent any chances of me becoming friends with him and his loud and cheerful attitude. However, I was wrong. Not only did I become friends with him, but he has also made me less "sullen". His positivity is very contagious. I even met his grandma. who is a very sweet and kind old lady. But that wasn't all - when I first met her, I got the same feeling of familiarity as when I had first seen him in the dango shop. I once again saw flashes to see a raven-haired woman, who looked very similar to this older white-haired woman.

I later saw her in more of my dreams, which I have been seeing since the last 6 years, ever since I first woke up without memories. These memory-flash-like dreams, which are often recurring dreams, have been showing more about my forgotten past. I try to remember them once I wake up since they are my only clue to finding about my past and my parents. These dreams are nightmares, and often very good, happy dreams.
