Meanwhile, on Ripple Star:

Ribbon's POV:

Frowning, I stare at the task in front of me intently. It is imperative that I do this correctly; who knows what could be riding on my success? If I fail, who knows what sort of terrible things could come to pass? With as much concentration as I can muster, I reach forward and do my best to make sure that everything is done according to protocol. I'm nearly there... Only a bit more... There. Finished.

Rolling my eyes, I give a deep sigh as I look at the just-straightened painting in front of me. Well, pretending that it was an adventure was worth a try, anyway. Sadly, it's still actually a boring task that's no fun for me, even if I am good at it. Well, who ever said that careers were supposed to be enjoyable?

(Come to think of it, a lot of people have actually said something along those lines many times before... Oh, never mind.)

It's a beautiful, warm autumn day here in Rippling City on the planet Ripple Star. I'm busy just like I always am, currently with straightening the decorations around the castle and making sure that everything looks as nice as it always does. Well, that's what I'm supposed to be doing, anyway, but my thoughts keep flying elsewhere.

Being the Head of Interior Decoration at Ripple Star Palace is a wonderful job, don't get me wrong. Ribbons and tinsel are my life, and they always have been. For ripple's sake, my name's even Ribbon, so being a Decorating Fairy is clearly my ultimate destiny. But sometimes, I miss that one beautiful, perfect time that I was lucky enough to get to go on an adventure with the Popstar folks back when I was still really little. Sometimes, keeping things looking nice just feels boring, silly, and pointless. And whenever I find myself feeling that way, (which has always been pretty often, but it becomes more and more often all the time), I find myself daydreaming of greater adventures in new and unique places.

"Ribby, you didn't make this bow over here anywhere near straight enough! How can you tie a ribbon wrong when you're named after them, for ripple's sake? Are you daydreaming again, Sis? You know, I'm the younger one, so you should be paying more attention and being the mature one and all of that stuff. But here I am, being the grown-up one once again."

With a quiet sigh, I force myself to put on a bright smile and turn to my younger sister. "I know, Taffeta, I know. I just get tired of frills and bows and stuff sometimes, you know? I wish I could go off on another adventure. That was the best time of my whole life!"

Rolling her eyes, Taffeta gives an exasperated huff and turns back to fix the bow that I've apparently gotten wrong. Taffy's a really pretty and kind Fairy, but in pretty much every aspect you can imagine, she's my exact opposite. For example, I have bright pink, messy, shoulder-length hair, while Taffeta's is dark violet and very long. She usually has it up in a professional-looking bun. My eyes are bright blue, like the color of clean water, but Taffeta's are a warm chocolate-brown that looks more like caramel-brown in especially-bright light. Plus, she wears a pair of black eyeglasses that make her look really smart, even though she doesn't really need them, while I don't have anything like that. My Fairy wings are dragonfly-style and colored a nearly-translucent cyan, but Taffy's are more of a butterfly-like kind and are a shimmering whiteish-clearish. I honestly have never had much of a fashion sense and often wear clothes that supposedly 'clash' with my color scheme, while Taffy is a self-proclaimed fashionista. Right now, just as an example, my younger sister is dressed in a white blouse and black pencil skirt, with plain black flats on her round and stubby Fairy feet. If she was describing it, however, she'd probably tell you something like 'My current ensemble is comprised of a chic vanilla white, button-up, collared top paired with a powerful midnight-blue skirt of the pencil variety, and a stylish pair of ballerina flats colored a deep, dark shade of black darker than the darkest dark depths of the most darkly darkest blob of dark Dark Matter.' Well, I got a bit over the top at the end there, but you get my drift, right? Blargh... Just thinking like that makes me feel all fancy-schmancy. Moving on...
