Himiko and Mikado explained the whole situation to you.
Basically, a few years back, Duolingo App became a pretty big thing. People made memes about Duolingo. Duolingo is an app about learning different languages.... but the memes made, about killing you or your family if you didn't learn a language made the Duolingo App come alive.
And the duolingo app wanted to do what the memes said.
That was the big thing.
Duolingo actually did that. The memes stopped. But Duo didn't, oh, no. He brainwashed 16 people with the help of 2 girls, and they hunt down people who haven't done their Spanish lessons (or whatever language they do). Mikado and Himiko were part of a group to stop the Duolingo owl.
Eventually, the world fell into disrepair. It was normally either obey Duo, or die, as at the time the group Mikado and Himiko were in wasn't too big at the time. It's been in a terrible state for a while, but the average citizen hardly knew anything about any of this.
Now Himiko turned to you, yawning before asking in her lazy way; "...Do you want to come with us...?"
You replied with a "Yes."
Without any more conversation, Mikado teleported the three of you to wherever it was you were going to go.
