My heart dropped into my stomach and I ran past the counselor and busted into the room she was in. It was a small room with a little cot at the end and two chairs lined up beside it. Faith was sitting on the edge of the cot and had her legs crossed like the kids in kindergarten. Her hair is side braided, reaching all the way down to her stomach. She had a hoodie and jeans on, and the hoodie had sleeves on them a little too long so only the tips of her fingers peeked through.
"Are you ok?" I asked as I sat down beside her.
" Not really " she replied. "Well, what happened?" I asked
" One of my old friends betrayed me for the popular group, and she started being mean to me because my mom died. She said some things to me in the hallway so I came to the office and cried."
There was a long silence. I didn't ask her what her old friend said, I just gave her a hug.
" How long, " I paused " has she been.. gone?"
" About a year and a half. "
" I'm sorry"
" So am I"
I was quiet for her for a while, after about three minutes, She was ready to go back to class. When we got back, I was really scared Mrs. Lemming was going to be mad. She just gave me a warning look as if to say " I understand why you left, but next time tell me."
The passing time bell rang, and we left together. I just needed to give her a boost of confidence so she would be good for her next class.
" Want some gum?" I asked, holding out a piece. She gave me a shy smile and tentatively took it. We walked to her class first and said goodbye. I walked off to my second hour class and had the comforting feeling you get when you comfort someone else.
