lee jaehyun was a monochromatic. he had learnt that you had another way of being able to see color. a person who had the ability to give color would be able to make monochromatics see color, yes, but there was a slower way to be able to see color.

lee jaehyun first saw red. the red of blood. how he was able to, he didnt know. all he knew was that he felt the need to see it again. first, he cut his fingers as he saw the red of the blood trailing down his palm to his arms. but then he realized he could do this without hurting himself. he tried to kill a man named lee juyeon, but someone had stopped him, kim younghoon had stopped him.

kim younghoon was a monochromatic like jaehyun. younghoon knew jaehyun was able to see red. he had seen jaehyun cut his fingers with the scapel in the nurse's office while he was sick one day. kim younghoon liked jaehyun a lot, and so, he had agreed to make a cut for jaehyun to enjoy. he made a long cut from the top of his left shoulder all the way down to his right waist. jaehyun enjoyed watching the wound, and younghoon seemed happy to see jaehyun looking so happy. jaehyun got a bit better the next few days, and felt sorry for younghoon because of the wound younghoon had endured. slowly, he saw something in younghoon.

lee jaehyun next saw orange. younghoon started to make him lunch so they could spend it together. younghoon had made them pork cutlets to savor during one lunch and as they headed towards their lunch spot, jaehyun fell to the ground. younghoon worriedly turned back and saw jaehyun, looking at him like he'd just see a ghost. but jaehyun had a reason for that, younghoon's skin had the slight tint of orange. younghoon helped him up and gave him the packed lunch. they sat down and when jaehyun had lifted the lid, looked surprised at the sight of it. he could see the golden brown fry of the cutlets, and inside the lunchbox also sat an orange that he could very much see the color of. he looked up at younghoon, who just stared at him. younghoon hurriedly looked away and had continued eating. jaehyun smiled at him and started eating too. jaehyun saw it again in younghoon, with a good amount more than last time.

lee jaehyun started to see the next colors over the past few weeks. he could see the yellow of younghoon's dyed blonde hair. he could see the green of the grass younghoon stood on. he could see the blue of the sky that younghoon adored, even if he wasnt able to see the color. he saw the indigo of younghoon's uniform. he saw the purple of younghoon's shirt on an outing of theirs. each new color he was able to see, there was something in younghoon that jaehyun also saw more and more of. something he had grown fond of.

at last the day came. jaehyun had invited younghoon to the playground. it was where he told younghoon about the colors. all the new colors he was now able to see. younghoon just smiled at jaehyun, knowing fully well that he'll never be able to see color, or jaehyun liking him back. but oh so he thought.

jaehyun mentioned how he also saw something in younghoon each time he saw a new color growing more and more as he discovered color. jaehyun told him what it was.

it was love. jaehyun had grown to love younghoon just as colors had begun to appear in his vision.

jaehyun leaned in into younghoon. he fluttered his eyes closed and younghoon did the same, their lips crashing into each other with a soft and gentle kiss. just as they pulled away and younghoon had opened his eyes, he gasped so loudly that jaehyun became worried. tears began to fill younghoon's eyes as he hugged jaehyun. he squeezed him so tightly that jaehyun could feel both of their hearts beating against each other. jaehyun hugged back and younghoon looked up at him, the tears on his eyes shining against the moonlight.

"jaehyun, i-i can s-see it." younghoon stuttered.

"see what?" jaehyun asked the crying boy in his arms, looking down on his brown eyes.

"color." younghoon breathed out as jaehyun kissed his forehead. jaehyun saw every other color too.

and love somehow being the strongest color of them all.
