[Erik's POV]

I didn't want to open my eyes. If I opened them i would see Hell; my eternal fate. I was dead, I had to be. The sound of the shot still rang clear in my ears. There was no way I lived, even if I had survived the initial shot, the Vicomte wouldn't let me live. I left my eyes closed and just listened; maybe I would hear the demons laughing at my misfortune. Maybe they would rejoice that the Devils Child was finally where he belonged, but I didn't hear any demons, just the constant ticking of a clock. It wasn't the clock I had in my home, the tick sounded too deep and too new and too expensive... I moved my hand a bit and became aware I was laying in a bed; much too plush and wide to be my coffin.

I opened my eyes

The room around me was incredibly fancy, obviously belonging to some sort of manor. The curtains on the windows were held shut with safety pins... odd. I tried to sit up only to be met with a screaming pain in my side. I threw the plush blanket off, only to discover my torso wrapped in bloody bandages... again, odd. My eyes travelled from the bandages to my ankles... my shoes were gone, I later discovered them by the door, and there was a chain wrapped around my left ankle, connecting to the bed post. I was trapped in this room, not knowing how I got there. I somehow managed to sit up and ignore the pain; trying to get the chain off, pulling as hard as I could, but with my injury I couldn't pull hard enough to break the locks.

There were footsteps in the hall... a man based on how heavy they were and lacking the tell-tale click of women's heels. As the foot steps her closer, I relapsed into a trick I had learned in the circus. I played dead. Quickly, I pulled the blanket back over me like it had been when I first woke up. I layed down with some difficulty and didn't move

The door creaked open, and I felt a breeze on my face.

My face

I wasn't wearing my mask! How could I not have noticed? The foot steps drew closer to the bed and I fought the urge to cover my face...
Something blocked out the light from the lamp.

"I know you're awake." Came the voice of the Vicomte
