Kinsey screamed, but instead of feeling dragon claws in her flesh, she felt like her body was floating. She opened her eyes and saw that she was surrounded by a light purple glow. She looked down and her body was radiating the lovely color, but Iris was nowhere to be seen. Then she heard a voice. It sounded almost like an angel's voice. Soft, gentle, and beautiful. "Don't panic. It's me, Iris."
I looked up at the red dragon which seemed to have frozen itself in midair, it's maw still open and ready to destroy both her and Aldwin. Then she glanced back at Aldwin himself who stood behind her, looking up at the dragon. He too seemed to be stuck in that position. "I'm in your thoughts, frozen in time for this second. I needed to blend with you to kill Vorayus."
I took a deep breath and focused on the voice. "How can I kill that thing with no weapons?"
Iris gave a gentle chuckle and Kinsey felt her own body begin to pulse with amusement. "We are one being now. Two spirits in a single body. A lot of power comes with such a joining."
"Won't Ceruleo want you back? You are his mate after all."
She chuckled again and then made Kinsey look at Ceruleo's still form. "He'll work it out."
Suddenly, a sort of spirit arose from the blue dragon's body. It swirled in the air, looking like the shape of a dragon in flight before it dove into Aldwin's chest. Aldwin gasped and could suddenly move. He looked around and saw her and then looked up at Vorayus. "Woah. Does this happen with dragons often?"
Kinsey smiled. "No. Apparently our bodies have been half taken over by dragon spirits. Do you hear Ceruleo speaking?"
"You both should hear me." A deep voice echoed through their heads.
"We have the option of sharing the mind link or making it private."
Aldwin growled in frustration and looked at their red adversary again. "Well how do we kill him?"
Ceruleo's voice held an amused tone."Walk around behind him and we'll start time again. Then we'll take over from there."
Kinsey led Aldwin over behind Vorayus and time suddenly sprung back into motion again. The red dragon dove face first into the dirt, skidding to a stop on his belly. He jumped up and whirled around, snarling. Before any of them could expect it, both Kinsey and Aldwin began to slowly morph into beings much larger than themselves. Kinsey looked down at herself and saw her clothes were disappearing, being replaced by thick purple scales. The transformation only took a moment, but once it was done, she couldn't believe it. They were dragons, in the exact forms of Iris and Ceruleo.
She looked at Aldwin/Ceruleo and he looked at her, but no time was spent on words as the red intruder attacked them. Aldwin/Ceruleo roared and attacked Vorayus, clamping his teeth on his neck. Blood spewed from his throat and Kinsey/Iris leapt in to help, clawing at his sides in an attempt to disembowel him. Vorayus gave one final snort and he went limp, falling from Aldwin/Ceruleo's jaws.
They looked at each other and then they were morphing back to human form.
"What the hell was that?" The true Aldwin looked down at his blood stained shirt in appalled horror.
Kinsey, whose legs wouldn't stop shaking from fear, shrugged. "I don't know. Iris? What was that?"
The angelic dragon voice came into their thoughts quickly. "Don't be afraid. That was merely me and Ceruleo's forms. With us in your mindscape, you'll be able to hear us and take those forms whenever you ask it of us."
Aldwin shed his bloody shirt, exposing flawless abdominals. "You mean we're stuck with the two of you in our heads?"
Ceruleo's voice came up all of a sudden. "Sadly yes. Once we have joined with a human body there is no removing us, but you will get used to it."
Kinsey sighed and her legs managed to relax a little. "Well, I guess we're kinda like weredragons if you think about it. Half human half dragon."
Aldwin sighed and dropped his shirt to the side. "So what now. We've have a little fright and a little excitement, but what's next."
Kinsey glanced over at the poor little crushed egg to the aide and she walked over, feeling Iris's sadness in her mind.
"My hatchling. I hadn't even come up with a good name for her."
Kinsey sighed and knelt down to the prostrate little baby dragon whose neck was awkwardly bent from where Vorayus had broken it. She tenderly reached out and touched its head, still slimy from the contents of the egg. Kinsey sobbed, thinking of what this little hatching could've become had it been able to live and breathe like normal.
Aldwin came over and sighed, touching a price of eggshell with his boot. "If you'll shift me into a dragon, Ceruleo, I'll dig a burial spot for her."
Ceruleo agreed and the rest of the afternoon was spent at a tiny funeral for Iris's baby whom they named Gypsa, from the word gypsy.
