Bleep! Bleep! Bleep!
Slowly, I lifted my head and slammed my tired arm towards my alarm clock to silence it. Once the sound had ceased, I rolled over and pulled the covers over my head. I was about to close my eyes and give into the sleep that I wanted so deeply, when a horrifying thought found it's way into my head.
It's the first day of my new school today!
I was dreading this new school. It's not because I don't like school. I actually kinda like it actually.
It's not because I was a shy person. Well I wouldn't consider my self an extrovert but I'm not that timid.
It wasn't because I didn't think I would make any friends. Actually, it was quite the opposite. I didn't want to make any new friends incase I forgot the ones I had made at my last school.
I had moved from England about a week before. My dad was a doctor and had just been accepted for a place at the local hospital so we packed up our stuff and flew over to Queens.
Personally, I think he only took the job so that he could get away from our old house. My mother had died about six months earlier. Sometimes at night, I could hear him sobbing. Although, it had been less often since we had moved.I pulled back the covers and began to prepare for the day ahead. It was kinda awkward that I didn't have a set uniform to follow so instead I just pulled on a t-shirt, hoodie and some jeans.
Once I had eaten breakfast, I walked upstairs and back into my room. In the corner, several moving boxes were stacked together. Glancing at my clock, I decided that there was enough time before school started to unpack a bit. I tore the sellotape holding the nearest box to me closed and peered inside. The item that laid at the top brought a year to my eye. It was my mother's notebook.
My mother had been a highly skilled and intelligent engineer. She had worked for loads of big companies including Stark Industries. However, her main focus had been artificial life.
She had only left me a few objects after her passing: All of her favourite dresses and shoes, her note book and an egg.
The egg had hatched a month or to after she had died. Inside it contained a small, white and purple creature. It was like a very squishy lizard.
I glanced down at Zappu's bed. She was sleeping so peacefully. I walked across the room and nelt down by her side. I ticked her under the ear and whispered,
"Wake up sleepy head."Her tiny eyes flickered open as she turned her head towards me.
When Zappu had hatched, I had no idea what she was. In my mother's book, there was a sketch of a similar looking animal labeled: "Niji Tokage"
I had looked it up on Google translate and found that it meant "rainbow lizard" in Japanese. Keeping with the trend, I decided to call her "zappu" which means "Zap" in Japanese.I grabbed a KitKat out of my draw, unwrapped it and handed it to Zappu.
"So. What's on the schedule for today?" She asked in-between mouthfuls.
"New school." I replied, grabbing my bag to make sure I had everything.
"I assume I'm coming." She stated bluntly.
"Ok. But you have to stay in the necklace." I told her printing to the chain on my desk.
You see, Zappu had the power to inhabit and possess technological objects. With the high level of skills that my mother had taught me, I had made several items that Zappu was to hide in when we left the house.
Zappu groaned as she leaped onto the desk.
"I really hate those things!" She retorted, "Why can't I just walk beside you or sit on your shoulder?"
"Because most people aren't accustomed to seeing rainbow lizards!" I laughed back.
"Ugh. fine!" She grunted as she transformed into a bolt of purple energy and absorbed into the central charm of my necklace.
I picked it up, fastened it around my neck and set off for school.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The first three lessons of the day went well. The teachers and my fellow classmates were all very kind to me and I learnt a lot. But now it was lunch. This was the part of the day I was dreading the most. I had decided that I was going to find a bunch of losers to sit with that I wouldn't get too attached to but I wouldn't be alone either. Scanning the crowd for a place to sit, my eyes settled upon a small group in the corner. Two boys and a girl.
Perfect.
"Can I sit here?" I asked as I reached the table.
"You're the new girl. (Y/n) wasn't it?" Questioned the girl.
I nodded.
"Sure." She replied before continuing with her food.
The boy next to me turned and introduced himself, his hand held out to shake mine. "Hi. My name's Peter."
(A/N Warning!: Were getting into lovey-dovey fanfic territory now. Be warned.)
But I didn't hear what he said. I was too busy staring at his handsome face. He had big, beautiful brown eyes. His slightly curled hair dangled into his face...
Fridge! I'm staring!
Shaking my head, I shook his hand.
"(Y/n). (Y/n) Clanxton.""Well Miss Clanxton," the other boy commented, "What do you have next?"
This boy was quite a bit bigger than Peter and had dark skin.
"Advanced Science." I replied.
"Me to!" Smiled Peter, "Oh, and by the way this is Ned and MJ."
Oh, god! It's going to be hard not to make friends with anyone if they keep taking to me! And now one of them are in my next lesson! Great!
At least it's the cute one...
No no no no!
You have friends back in England. You don't need anyone else.
Then the bell rang.
