11. Caydence

She wore a dark leather jacket, clearly worn, and one of the sleeves torn off. The entire left side of her body looked like it had taken a toll. She stood with her hip jut out awkwardly to support herself. Her left arm was missing up to her shoulder and her face was dark and scarred. Her nose looked like it had seen better days, and an eye patch  was strung across her shaven head to cover her left eye. She was absolutely beautiful.

Jessica limped/hobbled on her crutch as fast as she could. Everyone stood still behind her. They had been walking too long. The had been put through too much grief and pain in a short period of time and now it was taking a toll on thier minds. This was a hallucination. This had to be a hallucination.

For Jessica, the hug that came when they finally got to each other was very real.

Jessica didn't let go for a long time, and Jaque made no effort to let her go. She had finally found her sister.

After a while of hugging, Jaque croaks out, "Alright, Jess, you got to let go or else I can't get dinner."

Jessica wraps her arms around her sister tighter and buries herself deeper into the warmth of her love. "Dinner can wait."

The evening that followed was a happy one. Even with all the terrible things that had suddenly been thrust upon them, it seemed that all thier troubles could be forgotten for a while. Death hovered in the air constantly these days, but today, it had no power over them. Jaque had just come back from the dead and now they felt invincible.

Of course, she didn't really come back from the dead. She had never died in the first place, like they had all believed for so long. Jacquelyn told a story of great adventure.

Crowds of the undead swarming around her, clawing at her, and next thing she knew she was in a cave. A handsome stranger had saved her (how, he never would tell) and she had only lost an arm, an eye and a few bits of her leg.

Within the year and a half that they had spent together after he had saved her they fell in love, eloped and had a child together. It all seemed a bit fast, and she was young, but hey, it's the apocalypse. What can you do?
The story she told was brief and abridged, very straightforward and to the point but her friends lapped it all up eagerly.

"What are their names?"

"There's Finn, and our little girl Cay."

"How old is Cay?"

"10 months."

"Where are they?"

"Home."

"Why aren't you with them?"

"I was scavenging."

"Does this mean that you can't stay with us? You need to get back to your family, right?" Jessica holds mix of emotions in her soul, but the most powerful right now is the sorrow that she has to say goodbye to her sister after just finding out that she was alive

"Not yet... Finn wanted me to come with you. I can't go to my family until we've stopped this apocalypse."

"How do you know about us stopping the apocalypse?"

"It has been lovely to see you all again, but I really need some sleep. Good night." She pressed a quick kiss to Jessica's temple and left to find a place to sleep.
