Chapter 3: A Beach House, A Kitten & Some More Tears

It has been exactly three weeks since graduation and the night I told Ty I do not need him any longer. Since that night he has not tried to speak to me once, I think because he is already in Cali at football training camp and has plenty of distractions. Every day since we have not spoke my heart has felt a little bit stronger inside. This past week I have not cried one time, but I have not been alone because I have been crazy busy getting ready for college.

Today is the day I fly to California. I could pee myself with excitement right now, but I will not. My white shorts are way too cute to ruin. Almost all of my belongings were packed up two days ago and sent away on the moving truck. My parents surprised me this morning by telling me that they bought me a beach house that is in walking distance of the college. Their reason, is because living in the dorms will distract me from my studies. I was looking forward to being a normal college student living the dorm life, but now I got my own house. I really wish they would not do things like that. Like I always say, I would rather have a hug.

My flight leaves in about four hours and I have no idea what to do today. I said all my goodbyes to my cheer squad and best friends yesterday, it was a sad yet really great day. Rayne did not show up though and she did not come home last night either. It made me upset that she was not here with me for my last night in the house. I have called her twice and she has not answered. I will not leave this state without hugging my twin goodbye.

I hear the front door close from downstairs and I speed race to the top of the balcony. Its Rayne! “Surprise.” She yells.

Rayne is holding a small cardboard box that has a baby pink blanket inside of it. I see a little black and white fur ball with green eyes peering over the edge of the box. Running down the stairs as fast as I can I almost burst into tears!

“Oh my god.” I say picking up the little baby kitten. Its fur is so fluffy on the tips of my fingers. “It is a girl, and she is all yours sissy.” Rayne said. “I know you have wanted a cat your entire life and mom and dad have always said no, now that we are going to be on our own we can have a kitten.” Her smile is huge.

I pause in shock. Did she just say what I think she said?

“WE?” I screamed so loudly I probably hurt my new little babies ears.

Rayne holds up a plane ticket for the same flight as mine. I put the kitty back into the box and began jumping up and down. This is the best news I have ever had, I start to cry.

Damn, I cry a lot.

My sister hugs me tightly. “I do not want to be separated sissy.” she said. “I can not let you go to college alone.” She spoke in a cheerful voice.

“What made you make up your mind Rayne?” I ask curiously.

“Yesterday mom asked me to have lunch with her and she kicked me out.” She says sounding sad. “It did not bother me much because I had already made up my mind to go to Cali with you  couple days go.” She states.

“This means you are going to attend CAU?” I asked her. Rayne has been having a difficult time deciding what she wanted to do after high school. CAU was one of her options and it makes me beyond happy that she chose CAU.

“Yes, I am and I am going to major in photography and digital design.” She says with a great amount of confidence.

“I am so proud of you Rayne.” I say, as I grab my kitten out of the box.

The airport is humid and smells of luggage, leather and Starbucks. We are about to board our plane. Goodbyes with my parents are always terribly awkward they just stand their emotionless with their arms glued to their sides. I give my brother Bryson a hug and wish him the best of luck. I feel awful for leaving him alone with my parents. It would not be fun being alone in that mansion, which is what his life is going to look like the next two years. At least Audrey is near by to help him if he needs anything.
