Dear Summer,

The following mysteries you hold will never be ones that I understand,

1. Whenever I am around you, my memories fracture

Like glass shattering on the floor

Everything I remember about you are just parts of an incomplete whole

Just puzzle piece emotions that never fit together

Just broken sentences that cannot form words

You are sunrises and sunsets

But never days that form weeks that form months that form a season

You are not a season

Just a collection of moments

2. You are never what I expect you to be

Each day is different from the last

Sometimes you're here but not present

And other days I am the only person you want to talk to

I wish you could just grow up

But maybe youth is a blessing I'm not one to keep

And one that you are supposed to own

Forever

3. Our conversations are not so much talking as they are joking around

But whenever I try to say anything more, you are already out the door

If only you weren't this distant

If only we could orbit around each other instead of around the sun

Maybe then I could understand why

4. When you are gone

And other seasons come around

I think about you from time to time

I feel your ghost looking over my shoulder

When it shouldn't really exist

Because you never leave anything behind
