THIRD PERSON

The first time Natalia is approached by the CIA is a few days after Charlotte broke her. She happens to be at the most popular coffee joint in town as well, so while getting into line she runs right into a CIA recruiter, who was looking for her. After a few minutes of apologizing and ordering a few too many coffees, they sit down together and have conversations. The man who recruited her, his name she would later find out is Scott, started polite conversation.

Safe topics at the start, such as Natalia's distaste for Boston weather, a fake story about Scott's daughter prom horror story. The conversation soon develops to the usual.

Scott starts talking about how much good she can do, with the proper training of course. By this point Natalia makes it look she was paying attention but she was spaced out thinking about what job she could get now. That is until Scott proposes an opportunity Natalia never would have turned down.

" We've been watching you for a while now, " He sips his now cold coffee and lets his hands spread over the table, " You helped build Wayne Enterprises into what it is at eighteen, quite extraordinary. " She feels a pang of anger because she's more than Wayne Enterprises, Wayne Enterprises is a source of hurt and trouble and people who you thought were friends but pushed you out because of the silly advice of some asshole with an odd sounding name.

" Why aren't you recruiting Charlotte? " She spits out, venom soaking the words.

" We don't want Charlotte. "

This strikes her as odd since Charlotte is a genius and brilliant and rich enough to make an excellent spy. " Why? " She demands, she knows she's always been beneath Charlotte. In everything besides intelligence and height.

" Charlotte is grounded. She has a life ahead of her. You, " Scott looks into Natalia's eyes, seeing her hurt, and ignoring it, " You're free. You're grounded but free. The CIA wants you, you're already approved. "

" When do I start? "

Natalia goes through basic training. Special Ops training, mind-resistance training, and some training that's so classified she was never told the name of it but they still ran her through the drills and pushed her to her breaking point and probably messed with her mind but at least she's stronger for it.

Her body was never really meant for bulk or super strength but after countless nights controlling her breathing so her muscles don't sting unbearably by just laying there she does notice abs that are more defined, and her arms and thighs grow a bit thicker. It feels almost like she became a superhero overnight, and she can't help but spend an extra few minutes in front of the mirror every morning.

She learns how to shoot gun pistols and rifles and even a machine gun – which is not as fun as the movies would have you believe, and learns how to fashion a weapon out of a ballpoint pen which is much more fun than the movies would have you believe. She hardly recognizes herself anymore, which she supposes is a good thing. No longer is she the Natalia Alyeska of her youth. She's stronger, more agile, and most importantly, she's no longer naïve.

They finally decide she's ready for the field and they send her to Hong Kong to set up a cover. She tells her remaining friends that it's a fantastic opportunity and while there are a few tears from James, but no one tries to stop her. On the flight over, she ponders how easy it was to extract herself from her life as Natalia Alyeska. It's a little insulting, really. In fact, the most heartfelt goodbye she received was from James of all people, leaving her a drunken voice mail the night before.

" Nat, Nat, NAAAAAATTTT. Why...WHY ARE YOU LEAVING, MAN? Naaaaattt. IS IT 'CAUSE YOU LIKE ASIAN GUYS? WE GOT A LOT HERE, COME LIVE HERE. Naaaaattt. "

" James, how did you find the phone? " Oliver's voice was tiny and small in the background.

" SHHHH. YOU DON'T GET TO TALK TO ME, YOU HID MY PHONES. SSSSSSS. PLURAL. I HATE YOU. I ONLY LOVE NAT. " He giggled. " Nat. THAT'S A FUNNY NAME. NAAAAAAAAAAATTTT. "

A shuffle and lots of banging later, Oliver's voice came onto the message. " Um, hi, Natalia. Sorry, James's a bit drunk right now. Um, have a good flight tomorrow. Sorry." He paused before saying quickly, "We'll miss you."

Natalia saves the message permanently.

After being sent on a few solo missions they place her on a team of three other people. Those three other people being Jonathan, Zaira, and Freddy. Jonathan is the team engineer and analyst. Zaira is the team analyst and a field agent. Freddy is the primary and a field agent. Natalia is the secondary and a field agent.
