Draco's POV:

"Mione! Where are you?" a voice yelled from down the hallway.

Mione? Since when?

Scorpius came running in, blonde hair tousled and big, rosy cheeks spread out into a wide smile.

"I'm coming!" Granger yelled, beginning to chase him around and swerving into the other room.

"I want to show you something," Scorpius shouted whilst laughing gleefully and sprinting away, little legs going as fast as possible.

Granger looked round at me, silently asking for my permission.
I rolled my eyes.
"Go ahead," I huffed.
She flashed me a smile of thank you and proceeded to walk after Scorpius.

Thank Merlin she's distracted. The last time she came here wasn't a pleasant experience. For either of us.

I signed and followed after her.

"You can't catch me," Scorpius bellowed, tongue hanging out and eyes narrowed threateningly at Granger.

"Oh Yeah? Watch me."

Round and round they went in circles, Scorpius giggling madly and Granger laughing exhaustedly. I smiled. Scorpius hadn't been this happy in a long time. Not since Astoria.

Astoria had been the perfect pureblood wife. Classy, elegant and beautiful. But she had no heart. She was selfish. She was manipulative. And worst of all, unable to face her problems.
Astoria wanted more in life. She told me that I alone simply wasn't enough to satisfy her. I understood perfectly of course, I mean who wants to spend eternity with a partner they don't love? I just requested one thing; Keep in touch with Scorpius.
She packed her bags and left with the lie of 'going on a ladies trip.' Scorp was heartbroken when she never returned.
I had to keep up the lie, saying that she still loved him lots and lots, but a child needs it's mother.
We've managed without her of course but it was difficult. Difficult for me.
I was afraid of getting too close to anyone in case they up and left again. I was scared of leaving Scorpius alone. And most of all, I was scared when the time came to send him off to Hogwarts. Would they judge a Death Eaters son?
I never loved Astoria, but it still hurt when she left all of a sudden.
I just hope Scorp won't be too devastated by the truth. I know I owe it to him. I just don't know when he'll be ready. If he ever is.

"Malfoy?"
I quickly snapped out of my reverie.
Granger was there, eyes scanning mine anxiously and one hand resting tentatively on my shoulder, no doubt wondering where I'd been.
"Are you okay? You spaced out for a minute there."
"Yeah," I muttered, embarrassed, "I'm fine. Er, sorry about that."

She removed her hands and placed them awkwardly at her sides. Our faces were inches apart and I could feel her laboured breathing dancing across my skin. Looking closer, I realised Granger really did have remarkable eyes. A nice, innocent chocolate brown that neutralised my icy, cold ones.

What? Did I just-

I cleared my throught uncomfortably and blinked rapidly. This seemed to knock us both out of that strange stupor.

"Right. Well let's move on. Shall we?" I asked hurriedly.
"Hmm. Yes. Definitely," Granger replied, nodding frantically and hastily walking away, resuming their new game of hide and seek.
I smiled, glad to know that she had the same effect on her as she had on me.

Wait. Effect? What?
Dear Merlin! Was I attracted to Granger? What? No! This is simply not appropriate!

"Snap out of it Draco! Your a Malfoy for heaven's sake! Act like it!"

Suddenly Granger poked her head out of the door.

"Malfoy! I was just - were you talking to yourself?"

Crap.

"What! No! Where did you get that proposterous idea?" I spluttered.

She smiled devilishly.
"You were weren't you? It's ok," she said, grinning, "it happens to the best of us. However, if I were you, I'd get that checked out at St. Mungo's."

I frowned. Stupid wench.
