I've been working in this hotel on the outskirts of my town for a few years now. It never really got busy it was mainly occupied by people passing threw and the women of the night. Most night everything was great, normally I see some suspicious activities like women bringing random men here then the men leaving later on in the night but I cant really complain work is work.Until one night, one of the girls I often see while working walks up to the front desk and asks if we had a private staff elevator as she felt someone was following her and she didn't want to be seen going to her room by whom ever was following. I ablidged and took her around to the staff elevator. I opened it with the key and then if she needed anything else. This is when I noticed something odd, there's a random wire hanging down from the roof, I knew it wasn't there yesterday when I was In for my shift.
I brushed it off and went back to my desk, I was sitting in my chair playing phone games when someone walked in. They did t bother coming to front desk or anything which I thought was odd because I somewhat knew everyone that was in the hotel tonight and they often dont just have people come up to there rooms. Somehow I actually managed to use my head and I called up to the girls room who previously asked about the private elevator, I asked her what the person looked like and there description did relatively match whom I'd saw. I let her know to keep an eye out and call own to front desk if anything happens.
This is where it all went to hell, I sat by the phone for a few minutes afterwards waiting to see if I'd get a call, and when I didn't I thought everything was okay that the person I'd saw was there for someone else. A few hours passed with nothing going to wrong other the the normal guys getting mad about prices evolving some of the people staying. My shift was almost over so I went to make my usual rounds, I look over the foyer and I use the guest elevator to go up to each individual floor to check that everything and everyone was okay.
I stopped outside the door of the girl who asked about the elevator, I decided to knock and make sure all was good. After a moment or two with no reply I knock again this time with a bit more force again no reply. Using my key card I open the door slightly and to my surprise there was no one in her room. The curtains was shut and everything was off. I thought nothing of it and finished my rounds. The last place I technically had to check was the staff area so I decided I would take the staff elevator.
I walked down the hall to the elevator and inserted my key to open it but there was something jammed in the lock. I we t across the hall and unlock the stairs and quickly started to make my way to the next floor to try the elevator there. Luckily it worked and when it dinged indacaring it was on my floor the smell hit me bleach and lots off it, I was confused as cleaning staff shouldn't be here until around 6am and it was only like 2am at the time. Once the door to the elevator opens the smell was stronger much stronger. I went down to the basement because that's where the staff area was along with the maintenance area of the place. As soon as I stepped off the elevator and heard the sound of my shoes hitting a puddle of something I immediately knew what happened. I pulled the fire alarm and blocked the only exit the elevator. After what felt like forever but was likely a few seconds the man I had previously seen enter was running at me full speed and he was covered in bleach stains and blood.
I press the emergency dial on my phone and it called the police. Soon after the man was in my face holding a gun to my head. He demanded I give him the key and that I get on my knees. Using my quick thinking and skills I managed to kick this person between the knees and run, not before managing to get a picture of his face though. I ran threw the basement taking all turns I came across just hoping he was still following me. I grabbed my phone and yelled my address and that someone was likely dead and i was in immediate danger. About 2 minutes after that I hear banging and it's the same person from before trying to get the elevator to work. The key needed to have been in the lock withing 30 seconds or so fir the elevator to work because of safety reason. Knowing it wouldn't be long before police arrived at this point maybe a few minutes at most I started to search for the girl.
Biggest mistake of my life, she wasn't even left to be found in one piece. Seemingly durring my rounds around the hotel he shot her which explains why I didn't hear anything, but he also used the axe from the fire escape on the second floor to dismember her body. Each individual joint was rather cut of or shattered beyond repair. I blame my self to this day, because I had simply asked him what his intentions were when he first entered the hotel there's a chance none of this would of happened.
