Loki had no idea what his neighbor did or who they were. The only thing he knew was that they were really loud. Noise came from the apartment next to his. Someone in that apartment was constantly singing or humming something, usually accompanied by some form of instrument. In truth, it was beginning to grate on Loki's nerves and he was determined to do something about it.

It was around dinner time when the singing started again. Loki groaned loudly. He was fed up. He decided then and there to march over to the apartment and make the noise stop. He had a business to run and he couldn't very well do it if he didn't have some peace and quiet to work.

Loki wasted no time in yanking open his door and stomping over to his neighbor's door. He pounded on the door with such ferocity, he worried it would come off its hinges. The singing inside stopped and a moment later the door opened. Your eyes flashed with anger. "What the hell is wrong with you?!" you asked sharply. Loki crossed his arms over his chest.

"What's wrong with me is your incessant singing at all hours! And your humming! Every single day, all day and night. I cannot stand it any longer! I insist you stop!" Your tense stance loosened up a bit and the fire in your gaze dimmed. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bother anyone. I didn't realize the walls were so thin. It's been so long since I've been so free to sing. It's for work, if that helps at all."

Loki saw the regret in your eyes and softened toward you a bit. He sighed and ran his hand through his dark hair. "Forgive my temper." You smiled and held out your hand. "Nothing to forgive..." you trailed off and Loki realized you were waiting for him to supply you with a name. "Loki. Loki Laufeyson." You introduced yourself.

"Anyway, I really am sorry about all the noise. I'll try to keep it down," you declared. Loki nodded. "I would greatly appreciate it. I have paperwork to go over and a lot of noise is distracting." You told him that you understood. Loki thanked you and then turned back toward his apartment. He let out a groan upon seeing that his door had closed. With his keys and phone inside. The automatic locking doors was both a blessing and a curse.

He turned back to you with a sheepish smile. "Would you mind if I used your phone? I'm afraid I've locked myself out of my apartment." You agreed and let him in. "Would you like some coffee or tea while you wait?" you asked. Loki smiled. "Tea would be lovely. Thank you."

While Loki called the building supervisor, you started the kettle. Loki handed you back your phone with a sigh. "He said it will be at least two hours. Apparently he took his friend to the airport this morning and just left." You nodded. "You are more than welcome to stay here while you wait." Loki thanked you again and let his gaze travel around the room. There were a couple of instruments off to the side, including a small keyboard. There was some sheet music set up as well.

"So what is it you do that requires so much singing?" Loki asked. You sat down with your tea and smiled. "I'm a music and choir teacher at the high school around the corner. I sing so I can make sure everything's a good key and sometimes rewrite certain arrangements for certain sections."

"You must have a lot of experience." You smiled. "I do. I've been singing since I was a child and of course, I have degrees in music and teaching." Loki chuckled a little. He was pleasantly surprised at the fact that he enjoyed talking to you. "Fantastic. Your career sounds much more intriguing than mine." You scoffed a little. "Sure, if by intriguing you mean having classes with students that are only there because they couldn't change their schedules, or having some students ogling you every chance they get, then sure, it's intriguing."

Loki admired the sheer amount sass you gave off. It was something he had himself, but never had someone dish it back to him. Suddenly, he felt even worse for storming over the way he had. You were just trying to make your living. "I apologize for earlier, Y/N. I shouldn't have come over and yelled at you." You waved him off.

"Like I said, there's nothing to forgive. I should have been more mindful of my neighbor. How about this: you let me know when you come home and I'll stop with the music for the night so you can work in peace?" Loki hummed. The idea did have merit, but at the same time, it didn't seem fair.

"Why don't we make a schedule instead? Perhaps I could even join you over here while you work on your music. I may not know much about music, but I know what I like." You laughed again. Loki decided he definitely enjoyed the sound. "I think I'd like that, so long as you aren't too big of a distraction. I do have work, you know." It was Loki's turn to chuckle.

For the next two hours, the two of you sat talking about anything you could think of. By the time the building supervisor returned to let Loki into his apartment, Loki felt like he had a new friend. He smiled at you in the doorway. "Same time tomorrow?" you asked. Loki nodded. "I wouldn't miss it for the world. Goodnight, Y/N." He headed into his apartment. Not two minutes later, the singing started up again, only this time, Loki didn't seem to mind so much.
