Bea POV:
The world spun around me, his grasp around my arm locked me in place before him. My mind whirled as I stared up at his dark eyes. In another swift movement I was pulled closer.
His smooth lips met mine. My body was on fire as I welcomed it, I wrapped my arms around his neck as I felt his hands around my waste, pulling me even closer to close the small gap between us. I felt his tongue run across my lower lip, begging for entrance. I gladly accepted.
When we finally broke apart my blood was boiling, lust coursed through me as I looked up at my mate. He traced my jawline with his thumb. Our hearts raced in sync as we stood there in each others arms. Our eyes remained on one another.
"Goodnight Bea." His voice low as he moved slightly opening my car door without his gaze leaving mine.
"Goodnight Jace." I breathed before reluctantly moving away.
I drove quickly down the winding roads feeling more hot and bothered more than anything. Too soon to take him home.... I smiled to myself.
My thoughts raced. He was my mate... and I was beginning to accept it.
Jace POV:
I couldn't. I couldn't do it. I let the rage course through me as I grasped the silver knife, the second I pulled her back around—it was gone, I couldn't help my next action— kissing her. Holding her...pulling her closer so there was no space that separated us. God she had a power over me. I stood there as she drove away. I watched the red lights on the back of her car disappear completely down the dark road.
There was an emptiness that settled deep inside me. More so this time than the last. Each time it was getting harder to complete what I had to do. Shit. What was happening to me? The feelings that possessed me were starting to go above my own control.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I found myself in the lab, trying to get my mind off of her, to refocus my thoughts.
"You seem... distressed." The voice came from the silver cage. I ignored it. He came to the locked door, his bloody and bruised knuckles grasping the bars. "You didn't do it." He sneered.
I threw my lab coat on, the anger creeping back in.
"It's an unbearable amount of pain that you feel when you loose your mate. You don't seem to be in mourning." He scoffed.
"Do you ever stop talking?" I looked at him. His scars almost healed. Dried blood coloring his pale skin. The pieces that were carved out of different places of his body for testing were almost fully healed now.
"Let me guess, you had every intention to plunge that knife in to her back when she wasn't looking— but then you looked at her. You looked into her eyes, got all of the gushy mate bond feelings and crap, then you saw your future with her."
I filled the syringe with Aconitum Lycoctonum, in simpler terms; Wolfsbane. The contents filled the bottle. I tapped the side of the needle with my fingertips.
"You're not going to be able to fight it, though I would like to see you try. If the bond goes ignored, or you get rejected— It will eat you from the inside out. Messed up right? Courtesy of the Moon Goddess." He leaned forward against the cage to steady himself. "And if something were to happen to her...." He trailed off.
My blood boiled for an entire new reason now. He laughed as he weakly swung himself from one bar to another. He steadied himself again as a dark smile spread across his sunken face.
"When I get out of here, you can bet your fathers life— she's the first I'll go after," A low growl erupted from his words. Rage coursed through me, he wouldn't touch her. He wouldn't have the chance to.
"I'll be doing you a favor. Once people get wind you two are an item.... they won't be too happy, you being hunter and all. I'll tell you- going for the alphas daughter is a risky move, but maybe I'll take a shot at it. — Take her away, bang some sense into her... if you catch my drift. She is unmarked." He paused, looking directly at me as he said, "Or maybe I will just kill her. Either way—I would love nothing more than to make you suffer. You deserve it after abducting me my from my pack" He snarled.
I stepped closer to the cage meeting his dull grey eyes. Purple circles painted underneath, blood smeared across his face. I opened the cage.
The familiar high of the game kicking in, it always happened to a hunter. It was something we had little to no control over. It was the frenzy of killing another supernatural being. It was the best kind of adrenaline rush.
Another snarl ripped through his throat before I grabbed it. He was too weak from the silver and the pervious tests to fight me off. His nails bit into my arm as I dug the needle into his jugular, the Wolfsbane filtering into his system. He fell to his knees on the cage floor before collapsing completely.
"Then again... I should feel sorry for your mate." He choked before falling unconscious, blood pooled from his nose and ears as foam erupted from his mouth. The room was quiet and my thoughts traveled back to her.
'Mate'. That word echoed in my mind. I knew wolves had mates, but they never mated with someone who wasn't their kind. She couldn't be my mate. I walked back to the desk as I threw the syringe at the wall, the glass shattered. It made sense the feelings... she couldn't be... but she was....
My mate.
