Let's Go Home

"I really miss Benny. I am afraid to loose my children. Peter and Helene were fighting and I love them both dearly. Poor Agnetha is all alone. Peter will have to leave me in a few days, and only God knows how much I love him and enjoy his company. I mean, individually those things are not very severe, but apparently they all piled up." Frida confessed to the doctor. The doctor was in her room while Agnetha, Helene, and Peter were outside the room.

"I believe that is right Miss Lyngstad. I will have to have you rest for a while, especially since you are expecting. I can release you whenever. You are free to go whenever you are comfortable you may leave."

—During the talk with the doctor, outside with Agnetha, Peter and Helene—

"Peter, Helene," Agnetha said to them quietly. "Why were you fighting? Earlier, I mean." Helene and Peter exchanged glances.

"Well, Helene was yelling at me for liking Frida. She is my stepmother and is very nice and we are lucky to have her, and I don't understand why she would hate her." Agnetha paused and looked at Helene.

"She is trying to replace mom and I don't like it. She can't ever replace mom - no one can." Helene said.

"Helene, I'm going to tell you a story and I want you to listen real hard," Agnetha said to Helene. "When Frida was born she had her Mommy and her Daddy. Happy family, really. When she was about two years old her mamma passed away, and her father off to war. She never saw them again. Do you know how she felt? She never even had a mamma or a papa. She had her Grandma. She only had one person in her life to take care of her. You have four - actually more. You have your father, mother, Frida, and your stepdad. You also have me and Bjorn. We are here for you too." Helene looked at Agnetha blankly. "And also what Peter said to you earlier, not all stepmothers will take you in like that."

The talk with the doctor must have finished, Agnetha thought. Frida was walking to the door.

"Hi," she said to the three and smiled. She realized that they had sad looks on their faces. "What's the matter? Did something happen?"

On the way home Helene, Peter and Agnetha explained everything. Frida was kind of surprised. She was reminded of her mom and dad, which saddened her. "Frida, are you doing okay?" Agnetha asked as she stuck the key in the doorknob.

"Yeah," she answered quietly. "I'm just going to lay down."

"Okay, let me help you up the stairs, you really shouldn't be climbing them. Use my room."

"Okay," she whispered.

Agnetha walked her to her temporary bedroom and Peter and Helene went to the living room. The house was quiet. A few minutes after Frida was laying in bed, she heard a knock on the door.

"Come in."

"Mom, do you want me to lay down with you?" Peter asked. "I know you love cuddling."

Frida looked at him and smiled. "You sure do know me well," she smiled again and moved over. This time Frida cuddled up to him, instead of him up to her.
