Cody held up his hand to stop me. "Glen, that kind of behavior is so out of the ordinary for you. What happened?"
"You know, Doc? I don't know. I just thought about the baby and my mom and I just...lost it. I didn't want to lose anyone else."
"Then why did you hurt her?"
I didn't take her to the cabin. That was a place meant for death. I took her somewhere where I knew she would be safe.
"Safe?"
I shook my head. "Don't start judging me, now, Doc."
Fortunately for me, there was a place to hide her car, as well. I locked her in a room that had all the facilities she needed. She would stay there until she came around. I really wanted her to come around.
The bedroom, itself, had a camera, so I could make sure she stayed right where I put her. I did my best to pretend that she didn't look frightened and dismal.
"Can I at least have some books?" She asked the camera. "Preferable horror or ghost stories. Something like that. I need to be able to entertain myself or I'll go crazy."
I pressed the intercom button. "Of course! I'll get you everything you need. I would have been more prepared, but you caught me off guard."
"Were you always planning to bring me here?!"
"Originally, I was going to offer, but you removed that option for me."
Her eyes began to shine with tears. "You're insane. To think I ever trusted you!"
I'm not going to lie; that hurt. I stewed in my misery for a few minutes and then left to buy out a book store.
"How did you leave to go do that, Glen?" Cody asked.
"Oh, Doc. A magician never reveals his secrets!"
This went on for months. She turned up as a missing person and a manhunt ensued. I, naturally, was questioned by the detective, but I was able to act distraught.
Just when I thought all was well, Galves did the unthinkable. He asked me for a DNA sample.
"Mr. Rose, we would like you to submit a DNA sample just to remove you as a possible suspect from these murders once and for all. I know your friend is missing and this maybe a hard time for you, but I think it would be best."
Shit!
I nodded, solemnly. I couldn't afford to provoke suspicion. What I didn't know at the time is that, when Katey grabbed my arm, she scratched me. There was just enough DNA under her nails to link me to her death. My involvement with the others sealed my fate.
I managed to keep my head down for months and the more time passed, the more miserable she got. I started to get angry, again. I was giving her everything she wanted, so why was she so miserable? I was frustrated and blinded by my increasing dissatisfaction with her mood. So, I did the unthinkable.
After I left, I turned myself in to Detective Galves. He had already linked me to Katey's murder and to the others, subsequently. I never admitted to being responsible for Scotty's disappearance.
I told him in horrific detail about each and every wicked thing I had done. I delighted in the look on his face. God, he wanted to hit me so badly! He was disgusted by my very existence and I loved it.
I was so angry and miserable, and I wanted nothing more than to make everyone around me suffer.
"Visiting hours have ended, Dr. Cody," a nurse interrupted, from the door.
