Hi, hi, hi! I'm Oakpool, LightClan medicine cat! It's a tough job, but totally worth it, and way better than my life in ShadowClan. What? You want to hear about it? Well, okay, but I won't tell you everything--- just how I escaped and got into LightClan.

So, it was about half-past moonhigh, and I was lying awake listening to the soft snores of ShadowClan warriors. I was thinking about my aunt, Yellowfang. She had left to be ThunderClan medicine cat about a moon ago. I missed her so much, but she left me. Here. In this place.

Right before she left, she had explained that ThunderClan needed a strong medicine cat. But I knew the real reason why she left. She really left because she wanted to escape from her son, Brokenstar, the cruel ThunderClan leader. And to leave me here with him! How could she?

But no matter how much I was mad at her, I loved her. I mean, she was my aunt, right? I had to. And I did. So every night, I lay awake and wait for her to show up. To bring me to ThunderClan with her, to bring me home with her.

I curled into a tight ball and lay there, until there was the sound of paw-steps outside the warriors' den. I pricked my ears to listen, not daring to move any other muscle. The steps got closer and closer, until they stopped about a mouse-length away. I didn't breathe, but I feared that the cat behind me would hear my pounding heart.

"Oakpool," a cat whispered.

What? How did they know my name? A ShadowClan warrior, possibly? No, they were all asleep. Maybe it was Yellowfang! I was so happy, I could have jumped up and ran in circles, but I didn't. It was probably not Yellowfang, anyway. I didn't know who this was.

"Oakpool," another cat repeated. Two cats now? Oh, StarClan, is this an attack?

"Oakpool, this is me, Jadeheart. Actually, my new name is Jadestar, but we'll talk about that later. Come on," the first cat whispered. Jadeheart! Of course! But why now?

I slowly rose off the ground until I was eye level with Jadeheart and Lilytail. I followed them out of the den as quietly as possible. I was so happy to see them!

"So, what's up?" I asked once we were out of earshot. "Why are you guys in ShadowClan territory?"

"Remember what I said; about my new name being Jadestar?" Jadeheart meowed.

"Um," I said. "No."

"I said that two seconds ago!" Jadeheart laughed. Lilytail giggled softly behind her.

"Sorry! I was too excited to see you guys."

"Oh, well. I guess I'll have to explain everything over again," Jadeheart let out a long breath.

And she did. As she told the story, my eyes kept flicking up to the beautiful, silver star on her bushy brown forehead. When she was at the part where Deadfoot made the odd promise, Jadeheart noticed.

"Stop staring, please. I'm still not used to this," she admitted.

"Sorry. I'm not, either. This is so weird-ish cool!" I meowed happily. "I'm just so hyper, and I don't know why!" I started bouncing and shivering until I was sure I was going to explode. Lilytail gave Jadeheart, I mean Jadestar, a nudge. Jadestar dipped her head in agreement. Wha...?

"Oakpool," Lilytail purred. "You are going to be LightClan medicine cat."

I could've passed out right there. And I did.
