Newt has been in and out of it for about a week. Sometimes, at night, we can hear him moaning from the pain.   Everyone is sitting on the edge, wondering what will happen to him at this point.  I hate it but I try my best to cheer people up.  Minho especially.  All I get are small pity smiles from my attempts.  I decided it's time to go apologize to Alby.  I keep putting it off.
I find him with his head down in his hands. Alby is the best of us all.  He was one of the first gladers.  Our fearless leader. Looking closer at him I see he's worn out.  Bags under his eyes and looking so much older than his actual age. He's a teenager who grew up because someone had to. Just to make sure all of us survive.
"Alby," I say softly walking towards him "I'm so so sorry"
"It's alright kid." He looks up at me.  I'm just a mess.  The last time I cried like this was the night I arrived.
"I'm scared." I bury my face in his shoulder.
"I know.  That's what makes us human."  He hugs me.
"I wish I never said all those things to you."
"Well I think I remember little sisters are brats." We both laugh.
I can't remember the last time I was hugged.  We hear the Homestead door open.  Gally stands there with the most stunned look at the sight of us in each other's arms
"Well I see how it is." He quickly walks out.
Damn this must look pretty bad from someone else's point of view.
I follow him to clear it all up.
"Gally!" I shout jogging across the Glade. "Wait up!"
He stops as he gets to his work table.
"Alby is a lucky shank." He sarcasticly says.
"Stop it's not like that."
"Guess his rules only apply to us."
"He's like an older brother to me."
"Yeah, sure seems like it.  You know what? I didn't peg you for the kind of girl to act like you cared so much about Newt just to get closer to your new boyfriend."
"Gally you're being a real jerk!"
"Well that's just who I am."  He angrily slams down his tools on the work table.  "That's how everyone sees me.  Just took you longer to realize it."
"Gally -"
"Stop wasting time.  Go help Dan and Eric with their job."
"Let me exp -"
"Go now!"

Gally's POV (testing this out)
She stares at me like if I just hit her.  Her gaze falls to the ground and with an okay she leaves.
I watch her swiftly head over to the guys.  She just smiles and acts like nothing just happened.  I hate it when she does that.
When I close my eyes all I see is Alby and Wren holding each other.  I don't understand this feeling.  The wood on the chair I'm working on splits due to me over working the screw.  I toss it to the side in frustration. Everyone is starting at me now.
"What are you looking at shuck-faces?!"

At dinner I don't see Wren at all.  she must be in her room.  I head to the table where Ben, Dan, and Eric are sitting.
"How was Wren today?" I ask.
"She is pretty decent at building." Eric says with a mouth full of corn.
"Too bad you didn't make her a builder any sooner.  I know Ben has been trying to get at that since day 1." Dan smirks "Now we get our shot."
My fist clench at his words.
"Good luck boys.  You're gonna need it." Ben says as he finishes up eating.
"What do you mean?" I ask in his direction.
"I tried to get her in the Med-jack room day of the bonfire and she kicked me so hard in the balls."
I think back to Wren's face the morning of the new arrival.  Then her staying close to me that night.  Her words...
"You're the safest place in the Glade."
Before I know it I'm punching Ben right across the face.  Dan and Eric tackle me down.
"Throw him in the Slammer!" Someone yells.
