The Walls (Maze Runner Fan Fic)

ch 7

"Where is Gally?" I ask the guys when we meet up in the morning.
"Oh yeah, you went to bed early." Dan said "He's in the Slammer for punching Ben last night."
"What?!  Why did he go do something like that?"
Eric and Dan give at each other a look sharing some inside joke  "You know guys being guys.  C'mon let's get to work." They laugh the whole way there.

He's been in there for 3 days now. 
I can't believe I'm even thinking about him after what he said to me, but one week in the Slammer seems too harsh.  Especially if Ben was the victim.  I wrap up some potatoes at dinner.  It's late.  The Glade is so silent.  A breeze flows through the trees.  It's so peaceful.  The sound of the shifting maze pulls me back to reality. 
I head over to the Slammer and find Gally sleeping inside.  The moon lights up his face.  Without his constant scowl he kind of looks cute. 
"Gally?" I whisper.
"Get out of here Wren before you get in trouble."
I guess he wasn't sleeping.
"I know you don't want to see me but... I just wanted to bring you something to eat."
I reach in to hand him the potatoes and a canteen of water.  He hastily drinks.  Since the silence is beginning to feel awkward I quickly turn around to leave but a hand holds my wrist.
"So Ben, huh?"
"What?"
"The night of the new greenie.  Ben is who you were scared of."
"How?" I look down and start playing with a new hole in the sleeve of my sweater that I nailed during work while I was coming up with my plan to visit Gally "I didn't tell you that night so you wouldn't end up in a situation like this."
"He deserved what he got.  Any guy that says things about you or hurts you gets a lot more than what I got to do to Ben."
"Well, what are you going to do? Go around and punch every boy in this Glade?" He looks up with apologetic eyes. "I know, you know, I hear them when they think I can't.  I don't need a hero in here Gally.  I just need a friend."
"I can be both." His eyes are more serious and intense.  I realize his grip on my wrist loosens up.  His fingers hesitantly trace down to my hand.  Just before our fingers intertwine.  We turn our heads to incoming footsteps.
"Get out of here before you get in trouble."
