After dinner, she excused herself and went to her room. She stuffed pillows and blankets under her covers to make it seem she was asleep when she was gone. She then grabbed her lantern, a few matches, and climbed out of her open window. She ran through the night, going to the clearing where she spent so much of her time.
She pulled her hood tightly around her face, her breath echoing off the cloth. As she turned, she sped up her pace. Just as she was about to enter the clearing, she heard a groan. She stopped so suddenly that she almost fell over. Not daring to move she listened, trying to quiet her heavy breath. A sudden grunt and the sound of sticks and leaves being crushed under feet told her the creature was gone. She waited a minute before she crept into the clearing, breath held, to look for her friend.
She walked over to a pile of chains. Said chains were in what looked to be a stone block buried in the ground to hold down the creature. At the end of a chain in the front was a muzzle to hold his mouth shut. She stared curiously at the puzzle of chains, noticing there was something missing.
The dragon.
I'm aware of the shortness. I posted another chapter on another story and thought I'd go ahead and do this one. Sorry for putting you guys through that long wait.
