When the last of the snow finally melted and the first tulips poked out of the soil, Ariadne ran to the clearing in the woods. Upon arrival, she scanned the surrounding evergreen trees. When she found nothing, she let out a huff.

"Vair?" She whispered loudly, "Vairceus?"

Her call remained unanswered. She sat, sulking in the grass. At sunset she left, heading to her home.

The next morning, as she was eating breakfast, her father came in the door, an amazed look on his face. She could hear a commotion coming from the town square, but she couldn't see it from the window.

"What?" Her mother asked, "What is it?"

Her father shook his head, opening and closing his mouth before speaking,

"They've found a dragon!" He exclaimed.

Ariadne's younger brother, Marcius, dropped his fork, causing it to clatter to the ground. Ariadne, who was sipping her milk, choked.

"They what?" Ariadne coughed out.

"A dragon! A real dragon! It's caged up in a clearing in the woods! I saw it myself!" Her father rambled.

"Father," Marcius piped up, "what did it look like?"

"It's scales were red and gold, the beast's teeth are as tall as I am! And it's eyes, oh it's eyes! It has fierce violet eyes, the same color as the rare Lilium Brownii."

Ariadne looked over to Marcius, who was staring excitedly out the window.

"Where is the dragon, father?" Ariadne asked curiously.

"I already said, in a clearing!" He answered.

"There are many clearings in the forest, can you describe it?" Ariadne pushed

"Why do you wanna know so badly?" Marcius asked.

"You're not planning to go see it, are you?" Her mother questioned.

"Stay calm! She's just curious!" Her father exclaimed.

She nodded, happy that her father didn't question her.

"Anyway, the clearing looks like it will soon be filled with flowers and the evergreen trees make it look like a grove!"

Ariadne did her best to refrain her shock. She was worried about Vair and this dragon sounded a lot like him.

'He must have been waiting for me.' She thought.

She finished her breakfast and sat in her room, waiting for darkness to fall.
