Francis POV

Faith never failed to show up in my house day after day.  Everyday, after school, she would go straight to the hospital to spend an hour or two with Sofie. Afterwards, she would go to my house to help me with my mother. Sofie got out of the hospital yesterday, so she came here 2 hours earlier than she usually would.

I looked at her, as she was picking something up from the rug, and smiled. She certainly is my angel.  When she first offered me her help, I only expected her to show up in my house, sit, and talk to me, because that was all that I needed to gain the strength that I had needed to continue with my everyday life.

I didn’t expect her to do all of the things that she has done for me for the past few days. When my mom threw up on the floor, she scrambled to get a mop to clean it up. Even if I tried stopping her from doing so, she would just continue cleaning with a smile plastered on her face.

She made my mom smile. Now, it isn’t that my mom doesn’t smile that much, it’s just that whenever someone comes to visit her, she’s usually in a foul mood because she doesn’t like other people seeing her in her condition. I guess that Faith isn’t just another one of those “someone” to my mother. Unlike other people, she talks to my mom all the time: carefully listening to whatever she may be saying, laughing when the story calls for it, and holding her hand when tears were on the corner of my mom’s eyes. In her own way, my mom had just confirmed that Faith certainly is someone special.

I walked over to my mom’s room to check on the both of them. A smile slowly crept up on my face as I saw Faith and my mom. My mom was peacefully sleeping while Faith sat on the side of her bed, caressing my her head. I came over to Faith and whispered “I don’t know what I have ever done to deserve you.” She smiled as I pulled out a chair and set it beside her for me to sit on.

And it was true, as cheesy as it sounded.  I knew that Faith was kind and helpful, which is why I came to like her in the first place, but for some reason, I never expected her to do all these things for me. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to this amount of kindness from the people that I’m exposed to everyday. Maybe it’s because…she’s one of a kind and no one is like her at all.

Aside from being kind and helpful, Faith is also a strong woman. I remember that back when we were still in elementary, she somewhat bullied other boys, including me, because we weren’t really as strong as boys were expected to be. I don’t know why, but instead of getting mad at her and ignoring her, I became more amused of her. She definitely wasn’t like other girls who either a) ignored the boys or b) liked them a lot. Though admittedly, her actions were a bit cruel, she still struck me in a way that other girls never could. Even Sofie’s weird antics didn’t have much effect on me as Faith did.

I continued to talk to Faith until we became good friends. I couldn’t really stop talking to her, and I always found myself drawing closer to her. When I grew a bit older, I realized that that meant that I had a crush on her.

That was back then. Now, as I look at Faith stroking my mother’s hair, I realized that I love her.

Faith POV

“Where’s Sofie? Weren’t you the one who’s supposed to fetched her from her house to school?” I asked Kyla.

“Um, she has a mother, you know. She doesn’t need for me to fetch her. Also, she’s sixteen years old.” Kyla said, with an emphasis on the word sixteen.

“In case you have forgotten, Sofie just got out of the hospital, so she is incredibly weak, which is why she needs someone to help her to get to school. Also, her mother is just as deranged and lazy as she is, which is why she never sends Sofie to school.”
