Out of His League

(5) State Champs

It was the morning of the state championship she had on her cheer uniform and her blonde in braids with her bows. She had her windows cracked as "Tin Man" by Miranda Lambert played. She turned down the school road it had been four days since everything happened and she was still feeling the sting. 

Bucky and the guys were all in the parking lot in their jerseys when he heard the music then saw her car. She pulled into her spot and got her stuff out and walked into the school. She was at her athlete locker when she heard " Hensley." 

She moved her door she forced a smile "Hey.." she said 

"You have been out all week." He said 

"Yeah well I haven't really felt like myself so that's why I stayed home." she said 

He wiped her tears "You are to pretty to be crying over a jerk like him. I mean um you deserve better Hensley. A boy that bails on anniversary dinner date and sleeps around behind your back is nothing but a coward." he said 

She smiled "Thanks Bucky." she said

"You are a cheerleader you can't be crying on game day. You have a beautiful smile Hensley Dallas don't hide it cause some boy doesn't know what he had." he said then the bell rang. 

"I have to get to class see you later darlin." he said then he left her in the locker hallway. 

She felt a smile tug at her heart when he called her darlin in his southern accent. She wiped her tears and got in her cheer bag and did her make up and took her braids out and redid her hair. She got her books and ran to class Fury said "Ms Dallas cutting it close." as she slide passed him.

"Girl issues." she said

"I'll let it slide." he said

Around noon Fury came over the intercom "I need all cheerleaders and football players to report the front of the school. If you are on probation or hurt you don't need to come." Fury said 

They all got their stuff and headed to the buses "Um J. Barnes you are captain tonight so you will sit with Ms Dallas on the bus. so let's get on the bus." Fury said 

"Yes sir." Bucky said 

They all got on the bus and Bucky sat beside Hensley. "Now I know why I didn't know you played." she said 

"Because you got me confused with my brother or my other brother before he graduated." he said

"No..everyone calls you Bucky." she said 

He smiled at her "Well my um my middle name is Buchanan and my dad's name is James so I.." he said 

"Decided to find a way to make your name your own." she said

"Yeah I guess you could say that." he said with a smile then looked down. 

They both went quiet for awhile then she fell asleep then she laid her head on his shoulder. He swallowed hard and then he got a text from Brady "Breathe little brother breathe.." 

He looked back at him "Shut up>" he said with a smile.

That night they won their state championship game when they got back to the school. He walked with her to her car "Do you want to come with me to the party? Or maybe I shouldn't ask that..I don't think I have ever seen you at the parties." she said

"You would be correct darlin..I can't go to those you forget we are from two different worlds." he said 

She bit her lip "Well then what do you do after the games" she said as she looked up at him.
