Child Forever

Based on experiences from my childhood I hope my child will also have

What if I was a child forever?

Would everything be the same as I remember?

Would everyone be the way they are right now?

Oh, I some times wonder this myself

I would go the forest

Trees would be so enormous to my tiny eyes

I would spend all day climbing them

See for miles, feel the large wood limbs

I would get stuck in the trees up high

Calling for my uncle to get me down

But if he has changed, he would be busy at that time

And I would be stuck in that tree forever

I would go to the beach

The sand soft between my tiny toes

I would skip down the shoreline in the morning

Jump into the waves in the afternoon

I would get cold in the evening

Wanting my mom to wrap me in a towel

But if she has changed, she would also be busy

And I would freeze all night

I would go to the grasslands

The horses running faster than my little legs

I would try my best to run alongside them

To match their speed and determination

I would get very, very tired

Wanting my dad to drive me home

But, of course, he was always so busy

So why is it I think these thoughts?

Or are these thoughts even about myself?

For as much as I long to be a child

I longer to be the mother of a child

To recuse them from the tallest tree

To wrap them in the warmest, softest towel

To drive their sleepy spirit home to rest

I am a not a child forever

A child will show me that
