Chapter 8 - War

“Maddie! Maddie!” I screamed her name repeatedly as I stared into her eyes. I shook her still body in hopes of getting a response, any response. I looked around and saw blood soaked bodies lie across the once pristine forest floor. Scarlet red blood, once belonging to vampires and werewolves, covered every inch of green pasture and it made me want to throw up whatever contents that occupied my stomach. The sight alone was enough to render a person catatonic but seeing it firsthand must have been traumatic to say the least.

My focus went back to Maddie as I heard sobs broke out. I saw tears run down her rose cheeks and she clung on to me with all her might. I run my hands across her back in hopes to sooth her pain and her mind. “Maddie it’s all right. You’re safe now. I’m sorry I left you alone. I am so sorry.” My voice was on the verge of breaking. I felt pain for leaving her alone and for showing momentary weakness, for breaking down in front of Dominik like that when Maddie needed me. Never again will I show that side of me.

“Maddie it’s ok. You’re ok I promise.” Could I really make that promise? Before I could even question myself I thought about what happened. How did Maddie survive? I’m glad she did but there must have been dozens of vampires and werewolves here not a moment ago ready to kill her. I scanned the area and to my surprise behind Maddie was none other than Giovanni. His hands and mouth was covered with blood. Did he kill all these creatures? The way he looked now was something to be feared. His fangs were out and his soft and smooth demeanor was no longer there. Instead what stood in front of me was a cold blooded killer.

I didn’t notice but more vampires and werewolves come into view. They must belong to the coven and pack. A pale dark haired woman came up to Giovanni and handed him a towel. He wiped off the blood from his hand and mouth and got a change of clothes. Once he got himself back in his original pristine conditions, he stared above me, from what I can figure he was staring at Dominik. I could feel him and his pack behind us. The tension in the air was thick and I felt like a mouse trapped in a room full of hungry cats.

Giovanni started to walk towards us and I yelled for him to stop. Before I could do another thing, I felt cold hands around my throat and my feet were off the ground. "How dare you speak to the master that way human?! Just who do you think you…” before the dark hair woman could finish her sentence I felt my body jerked back and I was in the warm embrace that I was in not a few minutes ago. I saw the she-vampire thrown back into a tree with a loud crack. If she were a normal human, she certainly would have died.

“Don’t touch him, filth,” Dominik’s words came out with such spite and vile, I wondered if it was really for me he was saying it for.

More vampires started to come closer and the wolfs were getting ready to lunge. Before more blood could be shed, Giovanni and Dominik yelled out a resounding stop that it shook the trees and it made my knees buckle. I jumped out of Dominik’s embrace and ran back to Maddie. I knew she must still be scared.

Giovanni began to talk, but it was addressed more to his coven, “no one is to harm these two humans. The girl you see there is my familiar. You would be well to remember that if you don’t want me to kill you myself.” I heard gasp but it went away as fast as it came. Everyone bowed their head in respect and some even kneeled down.

“And no one from my pack is to harm these two humans. The boy is my mate.” This time it was Dominik that spoke to his pack. The pack did the same thing, the coven did once they heard the news, the lowed their heads in show of respect of their leader.

I hugged Maddie tighter and her sobs finally died down. I stared at Giovanni and I wonder what happened while I was gone. As if reading my thoughts he stared me in the eyes and began to explain what happened.

“A few hours ago a messenger came to my home. I didn’t know who he was, but he said he had a message for me from his master. I didn’t know who his master is but I accepted his message. It was a warning, a warning to watch out for his familiar. It said that he had a taste of her brother and now he was interested in the sister. I came straight to find you two and I caught your scent. I came just in time because I saw Maddie surrounded by rogues and banished vampires. I killed all of them, but Maddie saw a side of me I didn’t want her to see if I could avoid it. I’m sure she was shocked.” I started trembling as he said this. He was back. He was looking for Maddie now. Fear came over me as my memories came flooding back into my mind. I could feel Maddie hug me tighter as she knew why I was acting like this.

“Mather it’s ok. I won’t let anything happen to you. You’re not alone” It was Maddie that said this. I looked down and she was staring at me, her tear stained cheeks and her eyes red from all the crying, but she still looked beautiful and innocent.

“She’s right, everything is going to be ok; I won’t let anything happen to you either,” Dominik stated behind me.

“And you can bet I won’t let anything happen to her.” I looked at Giovanni noticing the cold blooded demeanor gone replaced with nothing but adoration for Maddie.

Maddie turned her gaze and stared at Giovanni. I figure it was a good since Giovanni was beaming with a grin in his face. If I’m not mistaken I saw a blush on his face as he turned his face away to hide it. Maddie shocked me by getting up and running towards her vampire and he welcomed her with open arms. It hit me like a train but I finally realized that Maddie was safe with him. I still needed to have a talk with him to figure out what his intentions are but for once in a long time, she was safe.

I looked at all the vampires and they all had smiles on their faces. I guess they were happy that their leader was happy. I turned around and set my sight on Dominik. He has been waiting patiently for me and I couldn't help but adore him for it. I saw the other wolves shift and I blushed instantly when I noticed that all of them were naked. I looked down and in an instant I felt Dominik’s hand caress my cheek.

“I will never get tired of your blush meine liebe. Don’t you ever hide it from me.” I looked up at him and couldn’t help but smile as he stared at me with his magnificent green orbs. God this man knew how to make me weak in the knees. He brought me into his chest and into a bear hug. I heard snickers behind us coming from the people from his pack. Some began to whistle and clap and I just blushed even more.

After what seemed like an eternity, Dominik finally let go from his bear hug. I turned around but I was still wrapped in his arms. I saw Maddie in the same position I was with Giovanni. She was grinning from ear to ear and I knew she was going to tease me later about all this. Never once has she seen me so flustered like a silly school girl. I stuck out my tongue at her and she reciprocated with the same gesture.

“Keep sticking out that devilish tongue of yours and I won’t hesitate to ravage you meine liebe,” Dominik whispered into my ears and I couldn’t help but shiver. This man!

“I don’t know about you Dominik, but I’m planning on going on a full out war with his scum that dare threatens my familiar,” Giovanni addressed Dominik.

“Looks like we have the same idea then,” I could feel Dominik tense as he said the words. “He harmed my mate and no way in hell will I let that go unpunished.”

“It’s settled then, our combined coven and pack declare war on this rogue.”

With that every werewolves shifted back to their animal form and let out a deafening howl while the vampires let out a unanimous growl in agreement with their leader.
