hospital beds, smell of needles;
nurses-- mechanical people;
move slowly in fuzzy motion;
poking holes in my skin;
they look down--- nodded with a faint grin;
my spirit--- disturbed;
my body --- intruded;
I look up, blink softly;
a few feet away, so lifeless and limp;
my neighbor lies sideways,
his back facing me;
pierced and stitched..
"Hello," he says with a smile.
"Hi," I whisper.."how are you today?"
"I feel dead but very much alive," he says.
"At least your side of the bed is next to the window," I remark.
"It's too small to see anything," he sighs.
"Oh.." I'm sorry.
"Me too," he whispers.
