My name is kate fawn, and this is the story of how I became an avenger.

This is such a great book. i thought to myself. I looked down at the book I was reading. Magnus Chase-sword of summer-I was so glad i found the book at the store.
I walked down the dimly lit street holding the book in my hands. <It's going to be a wonderful add on to my shelves>. I ran my hands over the hard cover before placing it back in my bag again where it would stay for the rest of the walk home. I hummed a song to myself as I walked, I wanted to wear my headphones but it was night, and it was safer to walk with them out anyway.
As I continued to walk I heard a deep groan from down a alleyway I was walking past. I paused for a moment, staring down the alleyway trying to locate the source of the sound. It was unfortunately to dark down the alleyway to see what it was though.
Deciding I partially liked living I shrugged and continued walking. I got maybe a half a block before I eventually decided to turn back. Curiosity getting the better of me.
"Curiosity killed the cat..." She muttered to herself "but satisfaction brought it back .."
She grabbed her phone and turned on the flashlight, pointing it down the alley way. Before walking forward into the area. She got closer and soon gasped at what she saw.
First she smelled the blood, then she saw the small pool of blood forming. Then she saw the man. An elderly man laying on her side a hand clutched to his stomach. He heard her footsteps and looked up to where she was slowly. A sort of fighting look in his eyes as If the old man still had some fight left in him even with the stab wound.
Kate at first was in shock, she had never seen so much blood before. Slowly she started to move towards the man. She knelt down "are you ok??" She asked. He clearly wasn't but that's just all she could manage to say at the moment.
The man seemed to let the tension drop from his body when he didn't see her trying to hurt him "no...I was attacked.." he said looked down at the stab wound in his stomach. He wouldn't have much longer and he knew it. And old man like him would struggle surviving this kind of wound. As Late saw the wound she reached for her phone moving to Dial 911 in a panic. "Don't" was all the man said. She looked down at him in confusion "but...your injured you need to get to a hospital now" she said. She didn't lower the phone but also didn't press the call button yet. "They won't make it here In time anyway.." he groaned as he turned to lay on his back.
Kate jumped a bit and moved to stabilize him a bit "hey. You shouldn't be moving. You'll lose more blood." She said as she finally put her phone down.
"So you don't want me to call for help, what do you want me to do then." She asked looking down at him in confusion and worry.
"Answer a few questions.." he said breathlessly. He seemed to be having more trouble breathing now then he did a few minutes ago.
"Alright...?" She said softly.

"Would you ever kill someone?" He asked. Kate paused, the question having complete caught her off guard.
"No of course not." She said quickly.
"Are you sure? Even if someone you love were to get hurt or killed. Or if you were to be blinded by rage." He said again. Looking up at her with intention set in his eyes.

He seemed to smile a bit "just like my dear wife was.." he said. He slowly reached for something in his pocket. She couldn't see what it was untill he placed it in her hand. Cool metal, round with the feeling of intricate designs in the metal. He removed her hand and she saw it was a beautiful pocket watch. Probably one worth quite a hefty price.
"Protect it well. People will come for it. I believe you will know what to do with it when the time comes." He said taking a deep breath.
"Just promise you won't use it for selfish reasons..." He said.
Although Kate didn't know how she could use a pretty pocket watch for selfish reasons she quickly nodded.
"Say it out loud."
"I promise, I won't use it for selfish reasons." She said quickly.
At her words the pocket watch seemed to sparkle a bit, almost as if it was reacting to her words.
"Good. Now go. Be quick." The man said as he weakly pushed her away.

Not knowing why she was so willing to follow his directions she nodded. Clutching the pocket watch in her hands and leaving the alleyway quickly. Fast walking to her apartment. Walking in and locking the door and checking the windows were locked. She had gotten all the way home on auto pilot.
It hadn't hit her that's she had just left the man to die in the alleyway untill a few seconds later.
"Oh shit...what did I just do..."
