Dear Readers,
Thank you so much for spending a little of your time with me in the City of Bridges! It means a lot to me and I hope I can deliver a story that entertains you while you're here.
I just wanted to take a moment to explain that this work is maybe a little different from most books on this site, because it was never really envisioned as a novel.
It began, really, as writing practice, to help me hone my craft, dipping into the backstories of several characters who appear in a novel I've been working on (struggling with) for a few years. Since some of those characters knew each other as teens, I thought it might be fun to explore what their lives were like when they were young and studying the sword in the far off city of Corregal.
What you'll find here is really a series of episodic vignettes that build on each other, but don't strictly adhere to traditional novel structure. While there is a plot weaving through the story, it will unfold pretty slowly (especially at first), and I can't promise there won't be diversions along the way with events and scenes that don't contribute directly to that plot, but are important to the development of the characters as they appear in the novel, or maybe just because I think it's a fun scene to write—and hopefully read.
I tend to think of it more like a tv series than a book, with a general arc that guides the season, but a lot of "filler" episodes along the way.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know what to expect as you read City of Bridges. Again, thank you so much for your time. Let me know what you think in the comments!
Cheers,
Stace
