Aria's P.O.V
"Crap crap crap shit." I muttered to myself, turning the ignition in my car and hearing nothing.
"Okay," I took a big breath. "One last time. This time it will work. I can feel it." I tried again, and heard the engine run down once again.
"Jesus tittie Christ." I got out of the car and grabbed my phone, about to call Todd. After he didn't answer several times I leant against the car and turned my head up to the sky in frustration.
I had an interview that I needed to get to. They were interested in a book of mine I was currently writing, which could turn my career around drastically.
"Hello?" In a moment of weakness I heard Ezra's surprised voice. There was no other options left.
"Hey, I'm sorry to call out of the blue." I said, hearing silence on the other end of the line.
"No, it's fine, I'm just reading." Ezra replied.
"It's a good book isn't it?" I said, suddenly distracted.
"How'd you know I was reading the same book?" Ezra asked with a chuckle.
"I just know you too well." I was smiling now, something I suddenly felt very guilty about.
"I um, I'm actually calling for a purpose. I don't want to seem like I'm calling just because I need something, but I kinda do." I said quickly.
"What is it?" Ezra asked, his voice back to being professional and serious.
"I have an interview to get to, and my car just broke down at home-"
"Say no more, I'll be there as soon as I can." He replied, and I could hear the faint sound of him grabbing his keys.
"Thank you so much, really, thank you." I was about to start gushing, I knew I would, so I quickly said goodbye and hung up.

It'd been over half an hour now, and honestly I was in between being very worried and a little pissed off. How can he not show up? How far away could he be living? Not very far considering he was at the same restaurant and bookshop as me.
So maybe he's getting back at me. That must be it. He's seeing me with Todd all the time, and all the mixed messages I've been giving him must be confusing and frustrating. God why can't my life be normal for once.
Suddenly a car pulled up, and I was a little mad to see that it wasn't Ezra. I dialled his number as Todd slowly got out of his car.
"Ezra I swear to g-" I quickly said as soon as he answered.
"Aria?" It wasn't Ezra's voice.
"Who is this?" I saw that Todd was smiling at me now, but I didn't register it and kept frowning in confusion.
"This is officer Benson."
"Why are you on the receiving end of Ezra's phone, what did he do?" I asked nervously.
"His name is Ezra you say? Ezra was in a car crash, and he's been taken to the nearest Hospital." Officer Benson replied, making my heart drop.
"Aria what's wrong?!" Todd asked, although it was hard to hear him.
I can't remember hanging up the phone, or dropping it, but all I could feel was my lungs gasping for air. My hand flew to my chest as I tried to grip something - anything - that would make me feel something besides the pain of my bruised heart. I scratched my collarbone hard, which freaked Todd out enough to grab my hands. When I looked back at them the blood was trickling down my fingers.
