Angst.
Yeah . . . I'm kind of a sucker for emotional pain. ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭
When you were younger, you had been constantly told that your eidetic memory was a gift; that anyone would be lucky to be able to remember everything.
They were right . . . and wrong.
Sitting in the car, still as stone, you wished in that moment that you could forget. Forget Vanya's angry and hurt expression when she stared down Allison. Forget Allison's look of betrayal when Vanya cut her neck. Forget the way both of them fell apart when they thought the other couldn't be saved. Forget the way you had stood by, helplessly rooted in place by a fear of something you couldn't see.
It was like everything was falling apart, over and over again, only this time you could stop it - you just didn't know how.
You were silent on the ride home, even with the bombardment of questions that Diego, Klaus, and Luther shot at you. They had anxiously asked about what had happened, where Vanya had gone, if she was with Harold, who had hurt Allison, but you had found yourself unable to respond, as the answers to all those questions were still being processed.
When you finally made it back to the Academy, the only thing on their mind was patching up Allison. Although, after everything that had happened in the cabin, you figured she would want space, to process the information as well, so you slowly walked up to roof and hid up there.
Dzie scurried out of some dark corner and followed you up, excitedly chirping at you as you sat down on the edge, legs dangling over the side of the building. The ferret took refuge in your lap, and you absentmindedly stroked his fur. You unconsciously curled in on yourself when the door to the roof opened. Thankfully for you, it wasn't Luther that had come up to interrogate you.
It was Klaus.
"Hey there, Kiddo," he said, sitting down on your left side. The side of his face was flushed, as if someone had slapped it, but you figured it was done by the man himself.
You sighed quietly, "Hey."
He looked up at the sky. ". . . This whole situation is nuts."
"You can say that again," you mumbled, hugging Dzie tighter to your body.
"So, I know we asked you before, but . . . what even happened in there?" Klaus asked. "You seemed pretty shaken up - you still do, if I'm honest."
You paused for a minute. "Promise you won't think I'm crazy?"
The skinny man chuckled, "Promise."
You sighed again. "Well . . ."
Hesitantly, you retold the story of how you and Allison discovered that Vanya had powers the whole time, and how Vanya wanted to be alone. You described how Allison had made Vanya forget when they were kids, and the fight that followed. On top of all that, you were grateful Klaus had kept his mouth shut for the entire story, even holding your hand when you had started choking up.
"She didn't even seem to realize what she was doing," you said, referring to her actions towards you and Allison. "The minute she cut Allison, Vanya just . . . fell apart."
"What happened then?" Klaus asked quietly.
You took a breath. "I knew how Luther would react . . . so I let her go with Harold."
"You . . . You let her go?"
You sniffed, blinking while his hold on your hand tightened. "It wasn't even letting her go as much as it was sending her away. I told her to go with him!" A thought occurred to you. "What if she doesn't come back?" A series of "what ifs" circulated through your brain, none of them suggesting that you'd ever see the short brunette ever again, the thought making your insides churn painfully.
