I gasped for air as I woke up. I tried to adjust my eyes to the darkness. I could feel cold beads of sweat forming on my forehead.

Where am I?

There were a couple of boxes at one of the corners. I was in some kind of cage coated with black paint which was already peeling off. The rust pretty much covered a quarter of the cage. The cage smelt like sweat and there was a vague smell of blood. I stood up and nearly hit my head. The celing was barely high enough for me to stand.

Suddenly, the cage accelerated upwards and the 'ride' wasn't the most pleasant journey. As a result, I fell down as I was standing. I felt the sharp pain shooting up my spine. The cage stopped abruptly.

A dark skinned boy hauled up the openings of the cage. I used my right arm to shade my eyes for the burning sunlight. My eyes had to adjust again because of the sudden change from darkness to brightness. About ten boys were standing, staring at me. I was astonished by the place I arrived in. The place was covered with a huge stone wall and there was an opening. A door.

A brown haired boy jumped down into the cage and held his hand out.

"Welcome to the Glade, Greenie," he said. I grabbed his hand as he hauled me up.

"I'm Ed, the leader around here," he added.

"My name is Alby!" the dark skinned boy said.

"Where am I? Who are you people? What am I doing here?" I shouted.

"Calm down Greenie. We all came out of this box. We had the same questions as you. All we could remember were our names. Now, do you remember yours?" and blonde hair boy said calmy.

Minho.

That word popped up in my mind.

"Minho," I said.

"My name is Minho."

"Well Minho, let us show you around the Glade," Ed said.

"This is the Box. Every month, a newbie gets sent up here to the Glade. We also get all our supplies from the Box," he said.

"This is the the Homestead. We sleep here," he said.

The Homestead was built out of wooden planks placed side by side. Rusty nails held the structure together. There were a couple of hammocks hanging from the celing.

"You can sleep here," the blonde hair boy said while patting a hammock beside the door.

"Never really got your name," I said.

"Newt," he replied without looking at me.

"Hey, what do you guys eat everyday?" I asked as my stomach grumbled.

"You see the crop farm there," he said while pointing at the small patch of vegetables and brown soil.

"We eat those. And we sometimes slaughter those animals but the Box provides most of our needs," he added.

"What's that?" I asked while pointing at the huge stone doors.

"We've got a curious one, eh," he said sarcastically. I shot him a dirty look and he looked away.

"That's the Maze, my friend," he continued while he crossed his arms and leaned on the door frame.

"The Maze?" I asked.

"We figured that is the only way to escape this klunk-filled place," he said.

Omg!! I accidentally deleted this chapter so I had to write it again. That's why it is different if you read it before. If you hadn't, I'm gonna start again.

Ed is the real leader since there was a few people before Alby (as it says in the book). Ed is my own character.
