"What happened last night? Isabelle asked innocently. All three of us fell silent.
"Everyone! Ed has,"said Alby softly, passed away."
"What!"
"How could that happen?"
"Who is our leader?"
"Where is Ed now?"
"A perilous creature had killed him. Ed has decided that Alby becomes Leader now," said Newt.
"Those Grievers!" I muttered.
Grievers? Why did that pop out in my mind, of all things?
"Damn! There goes my chance!" a boy said.
A commotion arose between the boys. I quietly ushered Newt and Alby away from the noisy crowd.
"Remember the World in Catastrophe thing and the Killzone Experiment Department," I said.
"Yes but I don't think it means anything, just some random words," shrugged Alby.
"Look. W from World, I from in, C from Catastrophe, K from Kiillzone, E from Experiment and D from Department. If you take the first letter of every word, it will form WICKED," I said.
"WICKED! Surely explains the bloody cruel acts of putting us in the Glade," said Newt.
"But why did they send a girl this month? It makes no sense."
A boy that I have never noticed before came and put his arm on Newt's shoulder. That stopped our conversation.
We gathered around the forest and buried Ed's body. Alby, Newt and I sat beside his grave and I think we all had the same thought. Ed. He was a nice person. Even though he was the leader, he wouldn't boss anyone about. In fact, he would volunteer for the jobs that no one wanted to do. He was a great friend.
