Chapter 3

"If we had so many animals, why don't we build a farm of some kind," I thought aloud while lying on the swaying hammock.

Alby heard me and replied,"Actually, that's a great idea!"

"We can build a small farm and kill the animals there!" agreed a boy.

"Let's call it the bloodhouse," I said.

"Why? That is a lame name."

"Then why did you all call this place Homestead?" I asked sarcastically. Nobody spoke for a moment.

"Just as I thought," I muttered.

"Let's expand the crop farm and call it... Gardens," I said.

"What's the commotion around here?" Ed said as he walked into the Homestead.

"Minho suggested that we make a barn and call it the Bloodhouse. The crop farm shall be called the Gardens," Newt replied.

"Nice, the names has a ring to it," Ed said as he nodded his head with satisfaction.

The next day, Ed called for a meeting.

"I have been thinking about it last night, we should have a leader for each of the places in the Glade. Like someone who looks after the farm, someone who explores the Maze and so on. More like a Keeper. When more people come, we can decide," Ed said.

"Right now, I am the Keeper of The Maze. Let's call us The Runners. I say Minho and Newt become part of my team. Alby, you will be the leader of the Glade when I'm not here."

"Some backpacks have come with the box and so did some digital watches," he added.

We went to the Homestead to get our supplies to explore the Maze. We put on our black digital watches and shoes. We walked through the doors with a mixture of pride and nervousness.

"Hey! Let's mark our path so we don't get lost," I said but no one heard me.

"Thanks for the support guys," I muttered.

I'll do it anyway.
