Ep. 7

Taking a deep inhale as she turned the key , Leylani tried to put together her emotions. On one hand she didn't want to see him but on the other , she cared and she always would. Greeted by the scent of apple cinnamon and the coos of a baby that was practically her daughter she smiled subconsciously as Zoey walked unsteadily across the floor to her father. Unaware of her presence , Lonzo picked up the little girl and kissed her cheeks earning him chuckles that eased his spirit.

As she gently closed the door , the little girl's eyes met hers and she beamed bright before reaching out her chubby arms.

"Lala..la"

The toddler crooned , immediately causing her father to spin around as Leylani approached him. Taking Zoey out of his arms , she nuzzled her nose against the baby's cheek before she inspected her ex.

"I heard about your injury. I know how much you hate setbacks so I just wanted to see that you were okay."

"I'm better now." His gaze was stuck on her as she maneuvered around him and took a seat. Zoey sat back in her lap and relaxed.

"Seriously Lonzo , how long are you out?"

"Two months and hopefully no more than that. I need to prove my spot on this team almost every season , I can't do that if I'm out."

"Well you know what you have to do, just stay positive. You don't seem as beat up as I thought you would be about it. I'm glad to see that."

Silence persisted between them for a minute before Leylani got up. Handing a fussing Zoey back to Lonzo she began to head for the door when he grabbed her hand.

"Lonzo I don't want to hear..."

She began to pull away from him but he spoke up above her voice cutting her off.

"I just want to say I'm sorry Lani you didn't deserve that, any of it. You've always been my greatest supporter and it says a lot that after everything you still are. Thanks for checking in on me , I don't deserve it at all."

She wasn't sure what was harder , swallowing the lump in her throat or resisting the urge to fall into him. She missed him so fucking much it was ridiculous. However this wasn't the first time and she was almost sure it wouldn't be the last.

"I'll always care for you and Zo, Lonzo. There's no question about that but when it comes to us, I honestly don't know what or how I feel right now. Just give me space please."

"Anything you want Lani, and at whatever pace you want."

Turning his eyes to the TV , Leylani followed his vision to see a Disney marathon was starting off beginning with Beauty and the Beast , her favorite.

"You made me watch this movie like twenty times , I swear."

Lonzo chuckled while Zoey clapped in anticipation as she rested against her father's side.

"Hey , you eventually enjoyed it and looks like Zozo did too."

"Well you know how she is with you, she's always enjoyed watching movies with you."

"Baba" Zoey cooed at the screen before she reached out for Leylani , melting the older woman's inhibitions as she took her.

"Let me make this clear Lonzo , I'm only staying because this is Zoey and I's favorite."

Taking a seat on the couch , Leylani snuggled up to the toddler and Lonzo gratefully took a seat next to them as the movie marathon began. For a second things seemed like how they used to be , Leylani and him laughed at funny moments while Zoey joined in, kicking her feet in bliss. After Aladdin , the Lion King and the Princess & The Frog Zoey finally dozed off on Laylani's chest.
