I turned back and saw the house opened with a giant hole in the middle, there were even ashes flying everywhere and a man in a beanie approached like some movie scene after bombing.

“Holy fuck dude, that was fucking close,” The guy took off his beanie and used it to wipe off the ashes and dirt on his face.

“What happened Beau? OMG,” the twins rushed to Beau and started squeezing his arms to make sure he’s alright. The rest of the conversation went mute. At that moment I couldn’t really think properly, all I could think of was I probably had to reside in this terrorist’s house for the rest of the summer, that thought itself was enough to make my insides collapse and cry. Then it was those green eyes that stared with me with a peculiar gleam.

“What is that?”

His three words reminded of how my 6th grade teacher rejected me from the School Productions of Grease.

“Oh that is our new sister, Brittany,”

“It’s Bethany,”

“She’s from New York,” one of the twins added.

“Sweeeettt~” he came closer and flashed me an indifferent expression,”I’m Beau, welcome to down under,” he said with a wink, and held his hand to me.

I didn’t think twice. I just rolled my eyes and went back to my purple bedroom. Afterall, though purple is my most hateful colour, it was still safer than staying in the same space as the three idiots with a potential psychopath who just blew a hole out of the house.

“Bethany! It’s dinner time,”

Dad dragged me to the dinner table however reluctant I was. Surprisingly, the mother who birth the three idiots were much more likeable and smart than I expected. She’s got a professional brunette cut and wearing a smart suit. She’s the opposite type from Mom, I didn’t understand what Dad saw in her but that was not the point. The point was they were talking about the hole.

“So you just blew off the house because of a silly bet?”

“Mom! It’s not a silly bet! James said he’ll give me 300 bucks if I could set the fireworks off, I proved him-“

“Enough of that crap, you’re 20 now Beau, you should know the consequences of your actions-“

As I heard the word ‘20’ I choked myself on the deliciously sour thai salad. I cannot imagine any 20-year-old would dress like a 14-year-old tumblr boy and had so limited vocabulary.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?”

“I refuse to be cursed just because of choking on salad,”

Beau furrowed his brow and the twins broke into hysterical laughter. I guess we all agreed we despise each other only after our friendly getting-along section.

“Mind your language in the house, Beau. I was about to just take away your phone because of the firework incident, but since you’re being so rude to Bethany I’d have to ground you for the rest of the week, and take away your cellphone,’

“What? Mother? That’s so unfair!” His cocky accent despite committing crime made me wanna punch him. I broke into sarcastic applause.

“I’ve never heard of such just punishment,” The twins clapped along with me and whispered into each other’s ears. Beau was so angry that he just left the table without finishing his salmon. I glanced at Dad and he was laughing in the most innocent way, the way he’d never laugh when he was with mom.
